Instagram Success: These Types of Images Drive the Most Engagement (Infographic)

Instagram Success: These Types of Images Drive the Most Engagement (Infographic) | Personal Branding and Professional networks | Scoop.it

A new study unlocks the secrets to what's most shared on the popular social network.

Curalate, a visual analytics and marketing firm, created algorithms to determine how over 30 factors -- including color, lightness and saturation -- affect an Instagram post's performance. The company analyzed more than 8 million images from the photo-sharing platform.

The findings share are some tips to help businesses kick their Instagram presence into high-gear, including:

Keep it cool: Photos dominated by blues and other cool colors tend to garner more likes while photos with warmer oranges and reds do worse.

Master monochrome: The more dominant a single color is on an image, the more likes it could get. Pictures dominated by a single hue receive 40 percent more likes than those that don't.

With color, less is more: It can be tempting to ratchet up the vibrancy, flooding your image with color to make it stand out. But in today's overstimulated world, bright and vibrant colors can get lost. The proof is in the data: Curalate says less saturated images receive 18 percent more likes than their mover vibrant counterparts.

A lesson in humility.  The data did not support my own notion of what a "good" instagram photo is.  Proof that data speaks louder than intuition (when you have the data!)....insert duck face.

How much is twitter worth (to small businesses)? | Personal Branding and Professional networks | Scoop.it

Today the third major social network is becoming a public company. As with all major IPO’s, we will read a lot of diverse and conflicting opinions on its valuation: to some Twitter will be an overpriced money-losing startup, to others it will be the next major player of the Web and undervalued. To add a data point to the debate, the Scoop.it team decided to study the value of social networks to small and mid-size businesses.

Our company has been focusing on Facebook for approximatley a year. In our experience thus far, Facebook has been a more effective social B to C platform than Twitter. That said, as we learn and progress with Twitter, we are confident that Twitter will compliment our Facebook and other social platform efforts.

Its a shame that we have so much internet identity theft in this digital age. One solution I highly recommend to many of our clients is the use of prepaid debit cards in order to minimize potential loss with like a Walmart, Netspend or Bancorp Prepaid Visa or Mastercard for online purchases and link that even further through a paypal debit card.
