The Performance Project

The Performance Project | Performance Project | Scoop.it

The Performance Project” is focused on lessons for leadership and management from live performing arts, music, theatre, and dance, and from sports.

James Schreier's insight:

The following link is to a song, "Why" from "Tick, Tick, Boom!"  Thanks to Michael Ingersoll, (Under the Streetlamp, Jersey Boys) for giving me:  "Over and over and over til we got it right."  It's clearly the theme song for this topic and The Performance  Project.  Message to leaders and managers:  PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!

Practice for Tough Situations as You’d Practice a Sport | Performance Project | Scoop.it

Sadly, corporate training for these situations is notoriously ineffective. We learn new skills in safe situations with few repercussions for mistakes, yet we often have to perform in pressure-filled situations with the potential for great consequences. Our scripted remarks are of little use in unscripted and unpredictable situations.

As America ages, museums are adapting to audiences with memory loss | Performance Project | Scoop.it

On the Mpls. Institute of Art's "Discover Your Story" tours, art history takes a back seat to the feelings and recollections that the works might bring to the surface.

James Schreier's insight:

I consider museums, particularly as some are evolving today, to be connected to the  performing arts.  This article shows why that connection is becoming clearer1

Profile – Review: John Michael Coppola

Profile – Review: John Michael Coppola | Performance Project | Scoop.it

I had the opportunity to spend almost three hours with John Michael Coppola on Saturday, 1/23/16.  John Michael was in the Chicago cast of "Jersey Boys."  The was three times more valuable than even my initial high expectations.  One of the key things I learned from John Michael was a clarification of the role (and importance) of "swings" in a Broadway show.  Being prepared to step into any one of multiple roles with very little notice is a message every professional needs to know.  Another great learning point from the performing arts.

The Venue Catalyst
Catalysts came come from events—taking everyone to the circus, a theme park, a rock concert, a ropes course; an elementary school lunchroom during lunch can fan the flames of imagination. But a venue need not mean a physical place; it could mean people who come from a different place. Famous business writer Tom Peters called these folks “freaks on file.” What if you invited to your next staff meeting an artist, a group of 3rd graders, a mime, a magician, a comedian, a chef or a clown, (I know, clowns come all the time…but, I mean a real clown).
James Schreier's insight:

Excellent example on how important the 'performing arts" can be for performance in so many areas.
