Hundreds of research studies have quantified the difference between having an “A” player versus a “C” player in a job, any job.
James Schreier's insight:

An HR article but ask that "mediocre" employee question from the perspective a concert or band perspective?  Standards in the performance world are so different from most organizations.

Forty years ago, chaos reigned in pop culture | Performance Project | Scoop.it
We had joy. We had fun. We had loathing. 1974 stands out for its bad-song production, but 1974 is often ranked as the best year for movies since 1939.

Maybe no messages here about leadership and management -- but an interesting discussion about the broader issue of culture.

James Schreier's insight:

The flaw in this article is that the author "resets the curve" for grading the NBA players.  You can think this way but it misleads the comparison to the organizational world.  At best, all NBA players are A's and B's -- the college players that didn't make the NBA, the high school stars that didn't make varsity in college -- you get the point.

Frankie Valli and Tommy DeVito: Friends for All Four Seasons

Frankie Valli and Tommy DeVito: Friends for All Four Seasons | Performance Project | Scoop.it
What pushes the limits of men's friendships?

Whether some license was taken in depicting the male bond between Frankie Valli and Tommy DeVito in Jersey Boys (the musical and the Clint Eastwood-directed movie) about the life and times of The Four Seasons singing group may be beside the point.  With any representation of a relationship, the viewer always has to think if he or she would have acted the same way for a friend.  In both the show and the movie.

James Schreier's insight:

I wish the author would have done a little more checking on the various factors of the story -- even though it doesn't change his main point.  But it would provide a better context to that point -- and some broader messages about the topic.
