Jesse Huang's curator insight, October 14, 2014 10:07 PM

After reading this article I learned and realized the major reason why sport athletes sometime do not performance at their best during crucial times and this is because their minds mess with them and they over think. the information that I found interesting and educational is how an athlete's mind gets broken down, as their nervous system and level of arousal gets affected because of 'perceived pressure'. In addition to this, it was educational when the author (Dr. Martin Turner and Dr. Jamie Barker) made this connection with how business people think and act under important meetings and events. I selected this article because it ties sport with business and made a strong connection between that because we are human, so we all get nervous when we try to over anticipate the future and that will change our routine way of doing things, which in the end will affect our overall performance. This information will help me in the sport management industry in the sense that in the future if I devote myself to become a sports agent then I have to try my best to not to over think when a problem or situation surfaces. Moreover, this will also help me in assuring that my athlete (client) does not get affected by this. Hence, just like my old soccer coach used to say, 'bodies in the oven, minds in the freezer.' Warm body that is prepared for actions but cool mind that is prepared to think straight.
