The point towards the end of this article is really important. It makes the point that people with learning disabilities may seek to appease by admitting something they did not do.

This extends to other behaviours under perceived or actual pressure. Examples might be agreeing to re-housing without really comprehending the implications, or something as trivial as agreeing to eat something that the person doesn't actually like.

Some of Scotland's best known artists have branded proposals to close three day centres for people with learning disabilities as "beneath contempt".

Interesting - on the face of it these artists are correct to object to the closure of these day centres, but there are sometimes better resources for people with learning disabilities. I hope the consultation mentioned in the article is thorough and uncovers what's really necessary.

It makes depressing reading that so many people with learning disabilities are still in registered care homes. Even though many care homes are excellent environments and can provide the best care solution, it shouldn't be the default choice.
