With CP+ 2016 in full swing, we stopped by a very crowded Ricoh booth to get our hands on the hotly anticipated Pentax K-1 full-frame DSLR. During our visit, we couldn't help but notice something very special hiding in the back - the original Pentax full-frame DSLR prototype from Photokina 2000.
Way back in 2000, when the 21st Century was just beginning to find its feet and photography journalists were starting to get used to putting a ‘D’ into ‘SLR’, Pentax announced that it was making a full-frame (D)SLR. Had it shipped, that camera - which was developed out of the company's then-flagship film model the MZ-S - would have predated anything from Canon, Nikon, Kodak or (unthinkable at the time) Sony.
Crop mode with a choice of three settings The new PENTAX 35mm full-frame digital SLR camera features a Crop mode, which allows you to select the image size to be recorded, with a choice of three settings: AUTO, FF and APS-C. The AUTO setting automatically selects the appropriate image size for the lens mounted on…
I recently purchased a Pentax 645z. I rarely do gear reviews since the internet is flooded with them but since there are actually not too many reviews to be found for this somewhat rarefied camera (and those that exist are often for fashion, wedding or commercial work) I thought I should provide my own thoughts on it from a landscape photography perspective.
The introduction of the new Pentax K-1 full frame camera body means that the range of lenses available had a few gaps that needed filling. As a result, a number of new 35mm-format optics have arrived, including this imposing 15-30mm. This fills an obvious and important gap in the Pentax range and it will be especially interesting to see if its performance is as impressively as its looks.
Having shelled out the big bucks for the Sony A7RII, I was a touch miffed when the impressive Pentax K-1 DSLR camera was announced. The Pentax K-1 boasts a whole host of premium features that are sadly lacking on the Sony A7RII and from the specs it looks like the K-1 might be the ultimate camera for astrophotographers.
Faithful to the Pentax reputation, the K-1 features innovations not found in other full-frame digital SLRs (though many appear in the K-3 top-of-the-line Pentax APS-C camera) along with a complete set of features found in top brand professional digital SLRs.
A smile and a wave to all you Pentax fans out there. In case you don't know, in the camera world, Pentaxians are a breed apart. They're moderate, mild, friendly, dripping with decency, thoughtful, considerate, intelligent and tolerant.
After years of promises and months of teasing, Ricoh has finally unveiled the Pentax K-1, a 36.4MP full-frame DSLR built around the K lens mount. It becomes the only conventional DSLR to offer a full frame sensor with image stabilization.
This is a review of one of the later Pentax Spotmatic models and one of the first cameras to offer aperture priority auto exposure. My Camera I must admit to having a bit of a passion for the Spotmatic models at the moment. Ever since I found my original spotmatic model a couple of weeks…
