Five myths about the cloud

Five myths about the cloud | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A recent episode of CBS’s “The Good Wife” captured all-too-common confusion about cloud computing. “Do me a favor,” the character played by Julianna Margulies tells her son. “I need all my company contacts saved from my company cloud to my cloud, my personal cloud. Can you do that?” Her son replies, “Mom, you have no idea what any of those words mean, do you?”

Building Creative Commons: The Five Pillars Of Open Source Finance - CounterCurrents.org

Building Creative Commons: The Five Pillars Of Open Source Finance - CounterCurrents.org | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

This is an article about Open Source Finance. It’s an idea I first sketched out at a talk I gave at the Open Data Institute in London. By ‘Open Source Finance’, I don’t just mean open source software programmes. Rather, I’m referring to something much deeper and broader. It’s a way of framing an overall change we might want to see in the financial system. To illustrate this, I set up an analogy between computer systems and economic systems, and I then explore what financial ‘code’ might be. I then sketch out the five pillars that could underpin an open finance movement.

Employers Alliances in France and Europe - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

To summarize. The idea is getting together fairly small private employers to create a non-profit legal entity. Often, these small businesses cannot afford full time staff for different tasks. And on the other hand, there are jobless or part time people who want regular full time jobs. There is also seasonal needs like in agriculture or in tourism.

Daily Kos: An Open Letter to The Occupy Wall Street Movement: You Were Right All Along | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

There is a vast total-information-awareness surveillance network made up of global corporations and subservient (captured) governments engaging in the systematic infiltration and suppression of social justice activist groups. Their main method of control is the implementation of divide-and-conquer strategies.  When it comes to activists, their approach is to apply these strategies to what they have defined as four distinct groups: Radicals, who see the system as corrupt are marginalized and discredited with character assassination techniques.  Realists, who can be convinced that real change is not possible.  Idealists, who can be convinced (through propaganda) that they have the facts wrong.  And Opportunists, who are in it for themselves and therefore can be easily co-opted.

Meet Altcoins: The wannabe alternative currencies riding bitcoin’s coattails | Domino Research | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Just when you thought you were getting the hang of this bitcoin thing, the market has created a few dozen alternatives. The good news is that while you were likely late to the bitcoin phenomenon, both with your investment dollars and your suggestions for how the protocol and ecosystem should function, “altcoins,” or the ecosystem of alternative digital currencies, will give you another shot. And several of these altcoins are now riding high on bitcoin’s rising tide.

The Ride-Sharing, Handbag-Borrowing Productivity Revival - Bloomberg

The Ride-Sharing, Handbag-Borrowing Productivity Revival - Bloomberg | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Emerging online services are connecting consumers such as Gray to a previously untapped universe of idle assets, enabling them to squeeze more value out of cars, designer dresses, baby toys and bedrooms that belong to other people or businesses. In this leaner, more efficient kind of consumption, just taking hold in major cities, New York University Professor Arun Sundararajan sees the makings of a new wave of productivity gains.

Mechanical tasks will focus on human-only capabilities: Gerd Leonhard

Mechanical tasks will focus on human-only capabilities: Gerd Leonhard | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The concept of 'work' has been at the heart of both the industrial as well as the information society, along with 'jobs' and 'growth' and that most rapidly outmoding term, GDP (expect a new metric to emerge here, soon, along the lines of 'gross national well being'). But what will work mean in a knowledge society, or indeed in some form of an 'experience society'? What will happen when merely maximizing efficiency and productivity becomes the chief domain of machines, rather than humans?

What Do We Mean When We Talk about “Value”? - Resilience.org

What Do We Mean When We Talk about “Value”? - Resilience.org | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Now that free market dogma has become the dominant narrative about value – and yet that narrative is neither credible nor readily displaced -- we are descending deeper and deeper into a legitimacy crisis.  There is no shared moral justification for the power of markets and civil institutions in our lives.  Since the 2008 financial crisis, the idea of “rational markets” has become something of a joke.  There are too many external forces propping up markets – government subsidies, legal privileges, oligopoly power, etc. – to believe the textbook explanations of “free markets.”
