The times they are a-changing

The times they are a-changing | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A paradigm shift Let us consider this for a while. What does technological decentralised abundance (TDA) actually mean? If this is combined with a sustainable relation with the environment, this will represent a fundamental, worldwide change in our way of life. There where sustainable TDA is present, money will not be needed for these products. If we connect this with a few developments mentioned before concerning TDA it follows that you do not need to work to pay for energy bills (personal energy needs), for daily food (hydroculture) or for products in and around the house (3D printers). The working week will be drastically reduced. And eventually your own job in the service industry will be discontinued because of technological unemployment. The labour for money paradigm is nigh.

The Road to the Information Age

The Road to the Information Age | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In the June/July issue of the Atlantic Nicholas Carr poses a disturbing question: “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” More specifically, Carr wonders whether the modern tendency to consume information online, through a constant stream of headlines, e-mails, and blog posts has eroded our capacity for deep, measured thought.

Another World, Now! The coming of the P2P Prince and the Transnational rEvolutions

Another World, Now! The coming of the P2P Prince and the Transnational rEvolutions | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In the article I first give a personal review on some of the important spaces of convergence and mobilisations some of which took place in 2011 and 2012 and others are currenlty being planned: like, Joint Social Conferences, Hub Meetings of Indignados, Global May, Agora 99 and Firenze 10+10 among others. I will also argue that with the spread of the P2P or ‘advanced communal’ forms of value and public space creation, based on P2P relational dynamics and the involvement of the new generation P2P activists and technologies, we might this time have a potentially much stronger alternative to capitalist mode of production than the communism and socialism practices of the previous century. Formulate a clear and accessible counter hegemonic project, and a methodology for collaboration, it might be possible to form transnationally connected alliances between radical reformist and revolutionary forces; horizontal and vertical forms of agency. A clear anti-totalitarian and alter-systemic emancipatory discourse and political program in the hands of such alliances would serve to turn the tide in favour of the people. The rEvolution, as it was joined by the 15M and Occupy movements, in this sense might have already begun!

The Next Battleground for Open vs. Closed: Your Car | Wired Opinion | Wired.com

It all seems upside down: a major toy company releases its first tablet; a major search company works on its first car. Yet all of this makes sense when you realize everyone just wants to be – or may already be – in the mobile device business. Including car companies.

Jeremy Rifkin On The Death Of The 2nd Industrial Revolution

American economist Jeremy Rifkin, author of "The Third Industrial Revolution", believes the second industrial revolution is in its final days. He blames the oil-price spike of July 2008, and the resulting economic collapse of the financial market sixty days later. This new third revolution will herald an era that combines communications and energy.

10 FileSharing Services Survivors of the Post-Megaupload Era : P2P ... | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
The closing of Megaupload not only made the news worldwide, but also scared a whole lot of other website owners, driving them to either close their gates entirely, change their profile, or ban US-based IP addresses. For example, FileSonic and FileServe – two popular file-sharing websites – decided to disable their main feature (read about it here and here). We compiled a list with the main cyberlocker alternatives that managed (so far) to stay off the U.S. Department of Justice’s blacklist or, better said, survive .

The 3 Golden Rules of Peer-to-Peer Social Sharing

The 3 Golden Rules of Peer-to-Peer Social Sharing | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

One of the best ways to engage your audience is by providing them with a compelling reason to share your message across social networks in a way that is natural and seamless. Word-of-mouth marketing and peer recommendations are an extremely powerful way to increase brand visibility, as people will believe their network of peers vs. a brand driven campaign.

Friday Brain Food: Video Interview with Author and Futurist Howard Rheingold

Friday Brain Food: Video Interview with Author and Futurist Howard Rheingold | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Here’s a 30 minute interview I did earlier this week with one of my favorite people and also one of my biggest influences, Howard Rheingold. The main subject of our conversation was Howard’s recent eBook project with TED on Mind Amplification. Mind Amplification or Cognitive Enhancement entails the use of technology such as media, search engines, social networks, search tools, and so on to make ourselves smarter. The idea of using media and technology as a form of cognitive enhancement was one of the motivational principles behind the personal computer revolution. This perspective seems to some extent have been lost today.

Michel Bauwens: Pirate Party USA – 20 Essays « Public Intelligence Blog | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“An anthology of 20 selections about issues central to the concerns of the U.S. Pirate Party, divided into three categories: (1) government and corporate transparency and accountability; (2) privacy; (3) intellectual property. A good resource for seeing how the apparently narrow Pirate Party core issues pertaining to intellectual property tie in pervasively with much broader social and economic factors.”

Why 'netizens' are so important for China - Quartz

Why 'netizens' are so important for China - Quartz | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

If there’s a story to be told about the Internet’s trajectory over the last few years, it’s the diminishing distinction between on- and offline reality. At least in the West, our digital and physical lives are growing increasingly interconnected. Every song we listen to, every restaurant we visit, every photo we take can be logged and propagated automatically on Facebook via “frictionless sharing” without our input. More than 80 percent of Americans, meanwhile, enjoy broadband access to the Web. As the saying might go, We have met the Internet—and it is us.
