3D printing technology goes from clinic to catwalk - Financial Mirror

3D printing technology goes from clinic to catwalk - Financial Mirror | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
3D printing has evolved and is being increasingly recognised as a complete manufacturing technology. The advantages and potential of the technology are multiple: stock is not necessary as you print what you need, the time-to-market is very short (once you make a design modification to a 3D file you can continue producing), the technology allows for mass-customisation and the creation of many unique products. You can also make very complex shapes that are impossible with conventional techniques.

The transformation of community activism into economic activism and the revival of cooperatives in the U.S. | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“Worker cooperatives, food stores and housing co-ops are a tiny sector of the America economy, but community activists are beginning to recognize their importance. As activists across the country move beyond a resistance strategy with essentially minor victories, to proposals for positive, long-lasting economic change, cooperatives increasingly become an option to investigate. Co-ops have a track record of providing a solid economic base to under-served communities.

Using the concept of the social commons to rethink the welfare state

Using the concept of the social commons to rethink the welfare state | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Firstly, the term ‘social commons’ is meant to be analogous with the protection of the so-called ecological ‘commons’. Defending ‘the commons’ means focusing on that which is shared by all human beings. It is the very foundation of collective life of humanity. It also means resisting the current commodification of everything and a breakaway from the dominant logic. The ‘social commons’ are human-made commons, meant to protect individuals and societies.

The space industry is booming with the introduction of private space companies. SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Planetary Resources, Bigelow Aerospace, Armadillo Aerospace, and so many more are working on privatized space flight. At one time, space belonged to governments alone, but that has changed. With the privatization of space, it is now in the hands of enthusiasts to make the future of space travel a bright one. We really need something that will bring our massive amount of technical power together.

What Then Must We Do - P2P Foundation

What Then Must We Do - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"The title is What Then Must We Do?, a phrase taken from Tolstoy. I suggest that traditional liberalism, traditional conservatism and traditional radicalism are now at a dead end. We are in a strange form of crisis which will neither end in societal collapse (as in the Marxist model) nor success (as in the liberal model) nor in some conservative model. Instead we’re caught in a never-never land of sustained stagnation and decay—which I argue is a very unusual societal context, being neither reform nor collapse. I think we’ve been in this context for some time now.

The Zero Point of Systemic Collapse by Chris Hedges

The Zero Point of Systemic Collapse by Chris Hedges | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Aleksandr Herzen, speaking a century ago to a group of anarchists about how to overthrow the czar, reminded his listeners that it was not their job to save a dying system but to replace it: “We think we are the doctors. We are the disease.” All resistance must recognize that the body politic and global capitalism are dead. We should stop wasting energy trying to reform or appeal to it. This does not mean the end of resistance, but it does mean very different forms of resistance. It means turning our energies toward building sustainable communities to weather the coming crisis, since we will be unable to survive and resist without a cooperative effort.

The Soviets of the Multitude: On Collectivity and Collective Work: | An Interview with Paolo Virno : Mediations : Journal of the Marxist Literary Group | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Paolo Virno is one of the most radical and lucid thinkers of the postoperaist political and intellectual tradition. Of all the heterodox Marxist currents, postoperaismo has found itself at the very center of debates in contemporary philosophy. Its analytics of post-Fordist capitalism refer to Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language, to Heidegger and hisDaseinsanalysis, to German “philosophical anthropology,” and to Foucault and Deleuze with their problematization of power, desire, and control apparatuses. Subjectivity, language, body, affects or, in other words, life itself, are captured by this regime of post-Fordist production. These “abstract” concepts and discourses have entered the reality of contemporary capitalism and become fundamental to it, as real, functioning abstractions. Such theoretical suggestions have launched enormous polemics over the last two decades.

A proposal to consider Public Employment as a Civic Common Pool

A proposal to consider Public Employment as a Civic Common Pool | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“In the common interest, let me report that the democratization process, begun long time ago with the introduction of the elections, with the advent of our Republics should had be extended also to the Public Employment. The public roles are not just jobs but always hold a certain amount of public power. They are part of the Res Publica conquered by the people become sovereign. Therefore, like the roles of government, they too should be periodically returned to the people to be reassigned to other citizens having the necessary requirements.

When can a public service be a commons?

When can a public service be a commons? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“To understand in what sense and under what conditions public services can be considered commons, it is necessary to offer some brief notes on what is meant by public service and what by commons. In both cases it is difficult to be concise, because of the breadth of the debate on the areas and the issues.
