The problems Bitcoin doesn't solve

The problems Bitcoin doesn't solve | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Part of Bitcoin's controversial status relates to the fact that, from the very beginning, it was envisioned as an alternative to gold (see: Bit gold). Among other things, gold is an insurance policy that people have against unbacked government money. However, because it's not easily usable,  fungible, and relatively volatile, it's hard to imagine gold as your primary day-to-day currency.  The same goes for Bitcoin.

How We Learned to Built Hardware, the Agile way - VisionMobile (blog)

How We Learned to Built Hardware, the Agile way - VisionMobile (blog) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I ‘m part of a hardware research group at Telefónica Digital called “Physical Internet Lab”. Three years ago we started a small group under the Emerging Technologies area of the company focusing on the Internet of Things. The commitment of the group was (and is), in ambitious terms, “to democratize the Internet of Things” opening it to as many makers, developers and users as possible. Our goal has been not entirely altruistic: Telefónica as a network operator has a lot of value to add in the Internet of Things economy.

Facebook Stock Not So Different Than Bitcoin - New York Times

Facebook Stock Not So Different Than Bitcoin - New York Times | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

With its extraordinary swoop on WhatsApp last week, Facebook proved its stock is not so different from the crypto-currency of the moment, Bitcoin. They can both be used for certain, specific purposes. Neither is backed by a government. Both depend on vast networks of individuals. And their worth reflects demand, which is based on murky fundamentals. The trick: monetize them while they still have value.

Together: How Cooperatives Show Resilience to the Crisis (2012) | Watch Documentary Free Online | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

It’s a fact. In Europe, 1.5 million workers co-own their enterprises. They are called worker cooperatives, social cooperatives or participative enterprises. The documentary TOGETHER reveals, through extensive research and exclusive interviews, why those enterprises show a major resilience to the crisis and its consequences through 4 examples: a mineral water plant in Poland (Muszynianka), a company in crisis transformed into a worker cooperative in France (Fonderie de l’Aisne), a consortium of social cooperatives in Italy (Consorzio SIS) and one of Spain’s main business groups (MONDRAGON Corporation).

Long live the link, an interview with David de Ugarte - Computerklaus | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

On February 14th, a council of ministers passed a reform on the copyright laws in Spain. According to the reform, content aggregators including Google News, Yahoo News, Bing News and Spain’s famous Menéame would have to depart from part of their income in favor of the original content publishers. As for now it is uncertain how, at what percentage and when this tax will be effective. Google alone is supposed to have had a publicity income in Spain during 2013 close to US$ 50 million and with perspectives to increase by 14% its turnover in 2014.

Collaboration, Not Competition: A Winning Small Business Strategy - Fox Business | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Small business owners can sometimes feel like it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. If you fall behind, even for a moment, a more tech-savvy business with greater resources could swoop in and take your customers. But competition among businesses doesn't always have to mean war. The Cooperative Way to a Stronger Economy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Our little group of a dozen families was running out of time. After meeting every weekend for three years to plan our hoped-for cohousing community, and after investing much of our savings to acquire a few acres of land, it looked as though our dream would fail.
