The digital rights victory of the #noal218 civil society movement

” the extension of the term of copyright was defeated. However, the #noal218 movement did not take the victory as an end in itself, but as the beginning for a positive agenda on access to culture and copyright. The Uruguayan copyright law is extremely restrictive: it penalizes everyday socially accepted practices and it is in conflict with the right to education and access to culture. For that reason, from the new platform promotes a copyright law reform that recognizes the cultural practices associated with the use of new technologies, that do actually protect the authors, and that promotes a free culture. The Uruguayan government has committed to establish, within the next few months, the framework conducive to an institutional debate, with the largest number of voices represented.”

Valuing Twitter - Wall Street Pit

Valuing Twitter - Wall Street Pit | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A little more than a week ago, I posted my first take on Twitter and argued that even in the absence of financial information from the company (since the prospectus had not been filed yet), you could price the company. Based on prior transactions in the company (VC infusions and acquisitions) and the multiples of revenues/users for other companies in the space (the social media medley, as I called it), I argued that Twitter would be priced at about $12 billion by the bankers.

6 Cities That Are Great At Sharing | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The "Sharing Economy" might be this decade's "Creative Class": a set of hot concepts in urban policy, from ridesharing to foodsharing, that are said to create jobs, attract young, educated residents, and boost a community's livability and sustainability to boot. A new report just out from Shareable.net and the San Francisco-based Sustainable Economies Law Center provides a "policy primer" for urban leaders who want to bring the benefits of sharing home.

How Spotify Engineered the New Music Economy - Mashable

How Spotify Engineered the New Music Economy - Mashable | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

When the New York-based band Spirit Animal released “The Black Jack White” last spring, the band’s frontman didn’t have high hopes about the streaming music service. He loves the platform and subscribes to it but didn’t think Spotify would help his band this early in its career.

Colin Begin's curator insight, October 8, 2013 11:59 AM

After reading this, it really shows the importance of social media in this generation. With so  much technology today, spotify is a great way to get you're music out there. Social medias play a huge role, In this day and age, sites like facebook, twitter, and instagram, are the sites that most people go on and retrieve daily information about music as well as many other things.

Courtney Aiello's curator insight, October 10, 2013 11:41 AM

I originally subscribed to Spotify thinking it wouldn't last either, but with their user-generated playlists (something that Apple slowly erased from iTunes) it is gaining momentum. It's not suprising to learn, either, that Sean Parker was an early investor-Napster was the ancestor of Spotify. It will be interesting looking forward to see how many lesser-known bands will gain new followers from Spotify.

Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work - P2P Foundation

Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"The purpose with the “Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work” is to construct and establish an alternative belief system that would entitle everyone in the workplace the same conditions and access of mutual trust and personal freedom. The intention is to advocate the values and standards of health, liberty, dignity and equality as common principles applied for all the people involved. In challenging the mainstream and contemporary belief system in organizing, leading and managing work and people (granting only a few and someone these principles exclusively), the effort behind this new attempt of intervention was aimed at developing a real alternative option of choice by creating an entirely new way of structuring power in organizing, leading and managing the process of work.

“Can the ethical turn that we are presently witnessing among corporations, consumers, investors, employees, activists, and other stakeholders – their desire to address a number of concerns beyond the profit motive – become a basis for a new “social contract” in which the interests of business and the interests of society can coincide? In other words, can there be such a thing as an ethical economy?”
