Cyberlibertarians’ Digital Deletion of the Left | Jacobin | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The digital revolution, we are told everywhere today, produces democracy. It gives “power to the people” and dethrones authoritarians; it levels the playing field for distribution of information critical to political engagement; it destabilizes hierarchies, decentralizes what had been centralized, democratizes what was the domain of elites.

Value Accounting System - P2P Foundation

Value Accounting System - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"We need to make the distinction between co-creation of value and value exchange. These are two important processes but very distinct ones. Sensoricans [members of Sensorica ] are working hard to solve the value accounting problem, which is meant to support large scale co-creation of value. The value accounting is a way to capture individual contributions that blend into a unique product, toevaluate these contributions, and to compute equity in the end product, i.e. a % for every contributor.

Google looks into accepting Bitcoin, but realistically its options are very ... - ExtremeTech | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The first thing to know about Bitcoin has nothing to do with how it works or what the current value of one is — of primary importance is the fanatical devotion Bitcoin users have to the mother of all cryptocurrencies. Many fans of Bitcoin promote the anonymous internet money at every turn, encouraging others to use it as a way to combat everything from government overreach to unethical banking practices. This is why cryptocurrencies are still a thing. Bitcoin enthusiasts scored a major victory when Overstock and Zynga started accepting Bitcoins recently, and that prompted one fan to start asking other internet companies what their plans were. Surprisingly, the one organization he got anywhere with was Google.

Think Like a Commoner | Think Like a Commoner | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In our age of predatory markets and make-believe democracy, our troubled political institutions have lost sight of real people and practical realities. But if you look to the edges, ordinary people are reinventing governance and provisioning on their own terms. The commons is arising as a serious, practical alternative to the corrupt Market/State.

The Brittle Grip, Part 2

The Brittle Grip, Part 2 | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

If you've been in the media slipstream today you know the outrage and mockery directed at Tom Perkins, one of the world's wealthiest and most successful Silicon Valley venture capitalists, for an oped he wrote in the Wall Street Journal comparing the rising critique of income inequality and "the 1%" to Kristallnacht. Just so we're all on the same page, Kristallnacht ("the night of shattered glass") was essentially the opening act of Hitler's Final Solution. It took place on November 9th and 10th, 1938. This claim manages simultaneously to be so logically ridiculous and morally hideous that Perkins deserves every bit of abuse he's already receiving.

Value equation: distributed solution to time management, which can be applied in large scale p2p, co-creation processes | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"The value equation is the third module of a value accounting system: contributions log evaluation of contributions value equation It "dictates" how revenue is distributed to all participants (active affiliates) in a collaborative value creation process. In other words, it is used to compute a % of total revenue for every participant/contributor, taking into consideration all different forms of contributions and different modulators, and perhaps taking into consideration different cultures of constituent communities formed by participants.

The Internet's Own Boy: Film on Aaron Swartz Captures Late Activist's Struggle ... - Democracy Now

The Internet's Own Boy: Film on Aaron Swartz Captures Late Activist's Struggle ... - Democracy Now | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

One year ago this month, the young Internet freedom activist and groundbreaking programmer Aaron Swartz took his own life. Swartz died shortly before he was set to go to trial for downloading millions of academic articles from servers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology based on the belief that the articles should be freely available online. At the time he committed suicide, Swartz was facing 35 years in prison, a penalty supporters called excessively harsh. Today we spend the hour looking at the new documentary, "The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz." We play excerpts of the film and speak with Swartz’s father Robert, his brother Noah, his lawyer Elliot Peters, and filmmaker Brian Knappenberger.
