Uber, Lyft and cutting corners: The true face of the Sharing Economy - Register

Uber, Lyft and cutting corners: The true face of the Sharing Economy - Register | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Glossy gadget blog The Verge obtained and published the handbook Uber contractors allegedly follow to woo Lyft drivers, under something called Operation SLOG. Whether this is legal or not – it surely is – it’s quite revealing. Before we get to the reveal, though, let’s take a step back for a moment and have a look at what each business really is about.

The Daily Startup: Will the Internet of Things Fit Ifttt, Or Go Pffft? - Wall Street Journal (blog) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The Internet of Things–the idea of a vast, connected network of devices that can communicate with each other and with us–is a new high-tech buzzword, and some companies are starting to shift their strategies in that direction. Norwest Venture Partners has led a $30 million round for Ifttt (“If This, Then That”), maker of a tool that enables software to take actions when certain conditions are met, Lizette Chapman reports for VentureWire. Now the company is moving beyond Web and mobile applications and focusing more on devices in preparation for a growing uptake of the Internet of Things. Meanwhile, privately held security company AGT International, which had $1.3 billion in revenue last year, last week announced a $120 million corporate venture fund that will back startups primarily in the Internet of Things sector.

Can Your Social Platform Be Your Intranet? - CMSWire

Can Your Social Platform Be Your Intranet? - CMSWire | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I made the point back in July that good old fashioned intranet content publishing was not dead, and that enterprise social collaboration platforms really weren't very good for one to many publishing. A separate web publishing platform would probably still be needed — use the right tool for the right job. As a result of that article, Jive Software asked to have a chat about my theory, to refresh my knowledge of its platform and demo some of the latest features. I always jump at the chance to be proven wrong, and so have had some interesting conversations with Adam Mertz, senior director of product marketing at Jive.

An Antidote to the Pathology of the Corporate State - CounterPunch

An Antidote to the Pathology of the Corporate State - CounterPunch | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

With ever increasing economic inequality, Israel Gaza massacres, the U.S. bombing of Iraq in the ISIS crisis and police brutality and racism in Ferguson, the world continues to descend into an abyss of darkness. Coincidentally in recent years, character disturbance seems to have become an epidemic in Western society. Narcissism, borderline sociopaths and trends of psychopathy have now come to pervade our everyday life. Is this larger pathology underlying much of the injustice and misery in the world?

The inside story of Google's secret quest to deliver products with drones - Quartz

The inside story of Google's secret quest to deliver products with drones - Quartz | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A man named Neil Parfitt is standing in a field on a cattle ranch outside Warwick, Australia. A white vehicle appears above the trees, a tiny plane a bit bigger than a seagull. It glides towards Parfitt, pitches upwards to a vertical position, and hovers near him, a couple hundred feet in the air. From its belly, a package comes tumbling downward, connected by a thin line to the vehicle itself. Right before the delivery hits the ground, it slows, hitting the earth with atap. The delivery slows, almost imperceptibly, just before it hits the ground, hardly kicking up any dust. A small rectangular module on the end of the line detaches the payload, and ascends back up the vehicle, locking into place beneath the nose. As the wing returns to flying posture and zips back to its launch point half a mile away, Parfitt walks over to the package, opens it up, and extracts some treats for his dogs.
