#HRTechConf: HR, Wikinomics and Generation Y | Ceridian ... | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

If you want to understand what’s happening in business and culture today, the tail end of the Agrarian Age offers several telling clues, according to Don Tapscott, co-author of “Wikinomics.” Monday morning, Don delivered the opening keynote at HR Technology Conference & Expo. He covered much ground—much like his book does. And the implications of his ideas are deep, going well beyond the scope of HR. One blog entry can’t do his presentation justice, and this blog entry doesn’t try to do so. But one thing Don covered is Generation Y’s sharp departure from older generations’ approach to working. That’s highly relevant to HR.

Degrowth 2014 - Michel Bauwens on The Transition to a Sustainable Commons Society - YouTube

Degrowth will only be possible by changing the artificial scarcity-based design practices and engineering of the for-profit sector and by removing the incentive to externalize the true production costs in terms of matter and energy. A commons-oriented approach should combine global open design based in communities, local on-demand distributed manufacturing, and the use of renewable distributed energy. Along with changes in governance and ownership, it can contribute to a global phase transition.

A short video on Commons Based Reciprocity Licenses | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Work on developing Commons Based Reciprocity Licenses (or CBRLs, for short) continues apace here at the P2P Foundation. When speaking of the types of licenses, we often find it hard to explain how they fill a niche in the alt. license spectrum, falling somewhere between the straight up copyleft and the popular Creative Commons Non-Commercial License.

Sharing as the new common sense in a post-growth world | Share The World's Resources (STWR)

Sharing as the new common sense in a post-growth world | Share The World's Resources (STWR) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
We need to talk a lot more about sharing as a way to radically reframe the post-growth debate, argues a recent report from the Green House. If growthism is the substitute for a more just and equal society, then it's time that we all start saying so - and embrace a new common sense for sharing.

It’s time for a post-Piketty vision of shared wealth | Share The World's Resources (STWR) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
The latest bestseller in economics has done a great deal of service to progressives in highlighting the imperative of shared wealth. But given the social and ecological limits to economic growth, this emerging conversation on global sharing has to get a lot more radical.

Personal Gardening and Farming Are Becoming Illegal

Personal Gardening and Farming Are Becoming Illegal | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
There once was a time when vegetable gardening and backyard farming were not endangered; these activities were a way of life. However, with booming big agriculture business comes the need for monetary and job security, which means that threatening the productivity of big agriculture will not be tolerated. With Michigan’s recent ban on backyard farming, along with many states regulating the amount of garden space individuals may have in their yard, the ability for Americans to grow their own food and feed themselves is becoming a thing of the past. The future of personal gardening and farming is in danger and may become illegal altogether.

Collective Intelligence for the Common Good | P2P Foundation

Collective Intelligence for the Common Good | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
The Internet has provided the infrastructure for a variety of new approaches for collective intelligence. We believe, in fact, that the new communication infrastructure provides the potential for radical changes in the ways that human beings communicate and work together to build a more peaceful, sustainable, and equitable future. At the same time, we acknowledge that collective intelligence is not a recent invention. It has existed for eons before the Internet came into being. While the expression “collective intelligence” is generally not used in this regard, the idea of democratic processes – especially when used to to help govern societies via collective problem solving – is a common material manifestation of that concept. Aristotle, writing in the Politics, states that people are political by nature. In the article on the common good in the Encyclopedia Britannica, this notion is expanded in ways that are relevant today.

Chris Anderson on Drones, from The Economist

Chris Anderson on Drones, from The Economist | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

It’s simply a case of parenting gone horribly wrong. I have five children, and I’m always trying to get them excited about science and technology and it’s hard. It’s video games versus test tubes, and video games tend to win. At Wired we were fortunate enough to get these cool products in every week for review. On Friday nights if no one had claimed a product I would take it home to try it out on the kids. One Friday there was a Lego Mindstorms robotics kit, which hadn’t yet been released, and a radio-controlled airplane. I thought this would be awesome. On Saturday we’ll build a robot, on Sunday we’ll fly a plane. On Saturday we built the robot, and discovered that Hollywood has kind of ruined robotics. We built it, and then it slowly rolled toward the wall and bounced off. The kids were like, “You’ve got to be kidding! We’ve seen Transformers. Where are the freakin’ lasers?” On Sunday we took the plane to the field and I crashed it into a tree. The kids thought this was totally predictable, that Dad’s science projects had once again failed. And I was just thinking, “How could that have gone better?”

Education technology is trendy. The future is in how fast you are at unlearning. - Innovation Excellence (blog) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Through our education, from kindergarten to grad school, then through our professional lives, we have been shaped in the same mold, even though we hear here and there that we need to “think outside the box”, that box being only aimed to fit into a bigger box, like the Russian dolls. Conventionalism, risk aversion and complacency kill innovation and entrepreneurship.
