#HRTechConf: HR, Wikinomics and Generation Y | Ceridian - Transforming Human Capital Management

If you want to understand what’s happening in business and culture today, the tail end of the Agrarian Age offers several telling clues, according to Don Tapscott, co-author of “Wikinomics.” Monday morning, Don delivered the opening keynote at HR Technology Conference & Expo. He covered much ground—much like his book does. And the implications of his ideas are deep, going well beyond the scope of HR. One blog entry can’t do his presentation justice, and this blog entry doesn’t try to do so. But one thing Don covered is Generation Y’s sharp departure from older generations’ approach to working. That’s highly relevant to HR.

Work on developing Commons Based Reciprocity Licenses (or CBRLs, for short) continues apace here at the P2P Foundation. When speaking of the types of licenses, we often find it hard to explain how they fill a niche in the alt. license spectrum, falling somewhere between the straight up copyleft and the popular Creative Commons Non-Commercial License.

In 2012, Jason Hoffman, then CTO of Joyent, and I wrote two papers together. The first paper, Changing the Game, attempted to place the massive business changes we are currently experiencing in the telecoms, IT, and cloud industries into a simple and understandable context. The second paper, Winning the Game, explained what conclusions could be drawn and what actions taken if these conclusions are to be believed.

Learning How to Share: Why Delivering a Product or Service Isn’t Enough | WIRED

Learning How to Share: Why Delivering a Product or Service Isn’t Enough | WIRED | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The widespread growth of the sharing economy has been hard to miss, with more and more new businesses entering the space on what feels like a daily basis. Forbes estimates the equivalent revenue flowing through the sharing economy directly into people’s wallets will surpass $3.5 billion this year, with growth exceeding 25%. The sharing economy today proves that we can essentially share nearly anything with just about anyone. From spare bedrooms in medieval castles to empty passenger seats in our morning commutes and wooden bicycles on Spinlister, the potential to rent out these amenities is limitless. We only need to find a creative and effective way to do so.

Who is responsible for ethical risk? Workers’ capital and dilemmas for ethical investment campaigns | Progress in Political Economy (PPE)

Who is responsible for ethical risk? Workers’ capital and dilemmas for ethical investment campaigns | Progress in Political Economy (PPE) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The democratising potential of workers’ capital has sometimes been used as a justification for privatising retirement security and the integration of workers’ interests into financial markets. This potential has been somewhat over-stated. It is true that institutional investors, especially pension funds, have rapidly increased in size and market share over recent decades. But this shift in the ownership of capital has not resulted in a shift of control. In Australia, some superannuation funds provide scope for workers, through their unions, to have an influence on investment strategy. In practice, this influence is very limited.
