The Sharing Economy Organizes to Keep Regulators at Bay - Businessweek

The Sharing Economy Organizes to Keep Regulators at Bay - Businessweek | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Expanding the so-called sharing economy has been a tricky business. When just a few people rent out their spare bedrooms or charge fellow commuters for lifts to work, they’re unlikely to attract scrutiny from regulators, even if they technically break the law. The more widely as activity spreads, the more attention government will pay. The role of the 'on demand economy' in post-welfare capitalism | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
If an higher education equivalent of Amazon or Google along the lines sketched above did come into being, it would disrupt the public university still further – only this time by means of an innovative, profit-driven, ‘sharing economy’ business operating according to a post-welfare capitalist model, just as Airbnb is currently disrupting the state regulated …

Jeremy Corbyn: What’s his economic plan?

Jeremy Corbyn: What’s his economic plan? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

There is though a flaw in in his explanation of what could be called Classical Quantitative Easing, yes, the money did flow to the banks, yes, it did then flow into the stock market, into commodities like gold, but it did not trickle down into the real economy. The only beneficiaries were the rich who got richer and the bankers with bigger bonuses.

Technology Networks - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"Metropolitan local authorities under the control of the Left of the Labour Party in the early 1980s were supportive towards socially useful production. Some provided space for community workshops. Activity at the Greater London Council in the form of its Technology Networks was the most intensive in this respect; though other workshops included the Unit for the Development of Alternative Products (UDAP) in Coventry and the Sheffield Centre for Product Development and Technological Resources (SCEPTRE).

Alexis Holwerda's curator insight, August 27, 10:35 PM

Africa is expanding its horizons with new energy sources. They are connective villages to the internet and to renewable solar energy. This is much cheaper than the kerosene they were using.

With these new technologies, Africans will be able to participate much more in international relations because they will be more interconnected to the world. This is also giving them more economic opportunities, and is called the "Third Industrial Revolution." In addition to more opportunities, it is improving the lives of many Africans who had previously not had any access to electricity.

Personally, I feel this is a great development. It is helping to bring Africa up to the level of MDCs and bringing them out from the dark (they have electricity now... it's not dark... ha.) It is also giving them an opportunity to improve their lives by giving them a chance to have their own businesses and be connected to the world.

Giftival Celebrates the Heart of the Global Gift Economy

Giftival Celebrates the Heart of the Global Gift Economy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
After days of fragrant, sun-filled skies, the weather did an about-face and turned stormy on my fourth morning walk through Trastevere in Rome. The black marble square tiles that make up the street paving in this ancient section of the city became slippery with the rain. I wrapped myself in my wool shawl and made a break for the door, trying to avoid slipping and being soaked through and through.
