The Top Benefits of the Sharing Economy « SocialSteamr Social Media Promotion - Linkis.com | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Blogging has become the most effective and least expensive way to drive quality traffic to a website. And social media would seem to be the number one way to have that content distributed in as wide a net as possible, given the ubiquitous “Social Share Bars” that tend to accompany blog posts.

Commons based peer production: an introduction

Commons based peer production: an introduction | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Commons-based peer production starts from the premise of a double-sided mutualization of the economy, i.e. the mutualization of immaterial resources such as knowledge, code, and design; and the mutualization of the means of production.

Re-thinking the Definition of “Public Goods” | Real-World Economics ...

Central to the instrumental definition offered in this paper is that public goods are created through the democratic process. Fundamentally, public goods are created by citizens voting for representatives who, in turn, make decisions about how government monies, raised collectively through taxes, will be used. These “elected funders” make day-to-day decisions about what and whether to fund. But in the end, the citizenry has the power, through democratic processes, to appoint and dismiss those elected funders.

ZCommunications » Savage Capitalism is Back | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Back in the 90s, I used to get into arguments with Russian friends about capitalism. This was a time when most young eastern European intellectuals were avidly embracing everything associated with that particular economic system, even as the proletarian masses of their countries remained deeply suspicious. Whenever I’d remark on some criminal excess of the oligarchs and crooked politicians who were privatising their countries into their own pockets, they would simply shrug.

Since 2011, from the Arab Spring and Spanish Revolution to Occupy, waves of global uprisings have been erupting as never before. The crisis of representation helped spawn decentralized movements as a manifestation of people’s aspiration to take the reins of their own destinies. For many, the presumption of legitimacy of their governments has been crumbling. What triggered this widespread global crisis?

Guanyem Barcelona: Homage to (a viable?) Utopia | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“There was a belief in the revolution and the future, a feeling of having suddenly emerged into an era of equality and freedom. Human beings were trying to behave as human beings and not as cogs in the capitalist machine.” This is how George Orwell described the city of Barcelona during the anarchist revolution of 1936 in his classic Homage to Catalonia. A short-lived dream that was soon to be crushed by Franco’s fascist regime.

Democratic Co-Production Agenda for Care Services in the UK - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"Hardly a month goes by without another horror story in the press and media about a disturbing state  of affairs in our health and care services. The prosecutions at Winterbourne View, the massive collapse  and public sector rescue of Southern Cross are symptomatic of a national care service system in crisis.  Is there a democratically accountable ownership model for health and care services that could make a  difference? Quite simply, could the active membership and cooperative governance of workers, service  users, volunteers and family members rebuild public trust in care services and put an end to cruelty and  neglect through an ownership transformation solution by stakeholders that is socially inclusive? These  fundamental questions are the focus of this study.

Amazon Launches File Sharing And Collaboration Tool - Forbes

Amazon Launches File Sharing And Collaboration Tool - Forbes | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Finally the news that most commentators were expecting withAmazon Web Services’ (AWS) announcement that they’re taking on the not insignificant task of carving out a point of difference in the ultra-busy file sharing space. With companies like Box, Dropbox,Google and Microsoft MSFT +0.04% all lining up to push their own take of what solution users really need, it’s the turn of AWS to step up and announce Zocalo, their initial product. If nothing else it’s an interesting piece of news given that perhaps the best known player in the space, Dropbox, actually uses AWS to store its data – another example of AWS competing with its own ecosystem. First I’ll take a look at the product’s functionality and then give some broader thoughts.

As the final project for her Food Studies master's degree at New York University, Leanne Brown decided to write a cookbook for eating healthy on $4 a day -- the amount of money that SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aka "food stamps") recipients must live on. "I wanted to create a resource that would promote the joy of cooking and show just how delicious and inspiring a cheap meal can be if you cook it yourself," she notes. "Even though food stamps help millions of people across the United States every day, benefits were reduced in November despite rising food prices.

There are different understandings of degrowth, depending on the country or context in which the issue is discussed. However, they all share the belief that a growth-based society cannot have a future. Despite all technological innovations and increased efficiency, social injustice and resource consumption are still on the rise. “Green growth” is an illusion.
