Towards a Commons-Compatible Cultural Economy in the European Union

Towards a Commons-Compatible Cultural Economy in the European Union | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“Sharing: Culture and the Economy in the Internet Age 2012 builds upon proposals by researchers and policy advocates in the past 10 years. The book outlines how one could legalize and frame non-market sharing between individuals, how one could put in place a new financing scheme to give true social rights to financial rewards for contributors and to ensure the availability of financing for producing new works. The book also discusses the nature of a cultural commons-compatible cultural economy, and defends that it is the only form of fair trade in this domain, and that it can successfully grow.

What I Learned from Meeting Greece’s New Finance Minister

What I Learned from Meeting Greece’s New Finance Minister | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In 2011 while preparing to deliver a TEDx talk in Athens, I recall thinking I had taken on a Herculean task in addressing the topic of hope in the most hopeless country in Europe. Until I saw the title of the speaker directly before me. Yianis Varoufakis delivered an address entitled “A Modest Proposal for Transforming Europe.” It was anything but modest. He was an economic advisor and academic back then. He is now Greece’s new minister of finance and the architect of the economic platform that swept the left-wing Syriza party to election victory.

My Friend Yanis, The Greek Minister Of Finance

My Friend Yanis, The Greek Minister Of Finance | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
I first met Yanis Varoufakis when he was a senior lecturer (the 3rd step in the 5-tiered Australian system, equivalent to a Professor in the USA) at Sydney University in the late 1980s, and I was a tutor (the 1st step) at the University of New South Wales. We’ve been friends ever since, and now he has become globally prominent as the Finance Minister of the most troubled and high profile economy on the planet, Greece.

Leftist Syriza Party Victory in Greece Strengthens Anti-Austerity Movement Across Europe | Democracy At Work

Running on an uncompromising anti-austerity platform, Greece’s Syriza party, the Coalition of the Radical Left, won a decisive victory over the conservative New Democracy party in the economically battered nation’s Jan. 25 election. Syriza fell only two seats short of winning an absolute majority in Greece’s 300-seat Parliament, prompting party leader Alexis Tsipras to form an alliance with the small, center right Independent Greeks party to form a governing coalition.

#ReturnToFreedom

#ReturnToFreedom | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

After 2 years of living underground and out of the public eye, the time has finally come for me to get ready for my journey back to freedom. The journey won’t be easy, and will require a lot of work to build widespread support. This is the reason for making this appeal to create teams for the ongoing collaborative effort needed in order to make this happen.

Circular economy could create half a million UK jobs

Circular economy could create half a million UK jobs | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

We hear a lot about how we are running out of resources, but for many people it is hard to visualise. Sometimes I’m asked: “Could it really happen?” The simple answer is yes, it could. And a lot sooner than we might think if change isn’t initiated soon. In fact, we have examples of where it has already happened.

'Hope begins today was their mantra': the inside story of Syriza's rise to power - Dark Mountain - Medium
