Can we believe China's Corporate Social Responsibility rhetoric?

Can we believe China's Corporate Social Responsibility rhetoric? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"China is talking the talk of Corporate Social Responsibility in its 12th 5-year plan. It has even endorsed the UN Guidelines on Business and Human Rights. Simon Zadek argues that the new economic superpower sees a real interest in responsible and clean business, and that deeds will follow the rhetoric" (Source: Open Democracy)

Excellent must-read analysis of China's efforts to move to a cleaner and greener economy model. Is he painting too much of a rosy picture?

Corporate Social Repsonsibility with the Human Rights record China has, for example in Tibet? Sorry, I don't buy it - this may have some areas of substance but is basically greenwash.

Monetary sovereignty, the mother of all sovereignties. (… Or what we should expect from #Salvados program.)

The Society of the Spectacle has these things to give us a show about two people who have faced the banking system and the status quo staging it as another episode in the war between different television audiences. Therefore, experts in public must have argued that what interests the masses are the stories of “bank robbers” proud of their mess, beyond the real causes of their actions. And especially they must have concluded that it would be juicy the fact that one of them, myself, be a “fugitive” of the Spanish justice.

How Twitter shot itself in the food when it decided to kill its third-party ecosystem five years ago | P2P Foundation

How Twitter shot itself in the food when it decided to kill its third-party ecosystem five years ago | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“A crucial turning point in Twitter’s evolution that arguably helped put it where it is today, both in a positive sense (it is a publicly-traded $25-billion company) and a negative one (its growth potential is in question and its strategy doesn’t seem to be working). And that turning point happened about five years ago, when Twitter decided to turn its back on the third-party ecosystem that helped make it successful in the first place.

The Cybersyn experiment, lessons from a past failure in mutual coordination economics | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

What pricing is for market allocation, and decisions are for planning, mutual coordination is for commons economics. Two previous experiments, the failed Russian internet described in Francis Spufford’s Red Plenty and the Cybersin experiment described in Eden Medina’s Cybernetic Revolutionaries, failed. We have argued that commons-oriented peer production offers a unique chance to revive these practices (see here), but below, Eden Medina looks back at what went wrong in Chile, even before Pinochet destroyed the project:

Closing the gap between executives and digital transformation - Enterprise Irregulars

Closing the gap between executives and digital transformation - Enterprise Irregulars | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Many organizations today are findings themselves at the digital crossroads: They have an enormous stake in how the business operates today, yet the world is changing at an all-time fast rate, requiring ever greater commitment to change, often down multiple competing paths. The frustration is knowing which are short-term fads and which actually represent crucial long-term shifts in the technology market that organizations simply must invest in.

Countless factories shut their gates. But some workers at perhaps …

How far can we go in unifying p2p initiatives ? | P2P Foundation

How far can we go in unifying p2p initiatives ? | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I’ve been using the term “Archipelago Island Model” to describe an approach to managing local economic tools (such as credit unions, CDFIs, time banks, time networks, mutual credit variants, the gift economy) by enabling each “island” (neighbourhood, village, town, region, on-line social network, common bond, and so on … scaling in various “recursive dimensions”) to seed its own local ecosystem from tools for which it recognizes an immediate need (in some cases time banks, in others credit unions, in others LETSystems, and so on …) then gradually extending the option by adopting new tools and progressively interacting with more communities, progressively reaching further but only as far as necessary to match resources to needs. In that way efficiency and cohesion can be increased progressively while reducing emissions and resource consumption.

Economic Calculation in a Resource Based Economy – A Defence

Economic Calculation in a Resource Based Economy – A Defence | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The ideas of Ludwig von Mises, an economist of the Austrian School, have been resurrected by critics of a RBE in an attempt to show that a moneyless economy is impossible. Despite numerous attempts to disprove the criticism, the spectre of von Mises still hangs over the social movements that support a RBE. But my defence here is not merely yet another attempt at disproving von Mises, but emerges also from the frequency of misunderstandings and misuse of his critique, and some issues regarding the proposed solutions from RBE supporters. I wish to set the record straight on what the true challenge of von Mises’s ‘calculation problem’ is, but also offer internal critique against some rebuttals against von Mises by RBE, such as the idea that computation solves the calculation problem.
