Share and Share Alike: How the Sharing Economy Will Change Your Life

Share and Share Alike: How the Sharing Economy Will Change Your Life | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

It’s an unnaturally warm day in San Francisco, a pleasant breeze wafts in through an open window while the faint sound of traffic is drowned out by a oscillating fan. In the last hour, Chloe – a Zirtual Assistant – has seamlessly booked a client’s last minute travel itinerary for South by Southwest, scheduled 5 meetings for various people and coordinated in-person errands for an SF based client through TaskRabbit.

The Sharing Economy III: Resources (Human & Other)

The Sharing Economy III: Resources (Human & Other) | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In my previous two essays I wrote about the new sharing economy, focusing on regulations and taxes. In this essay I will cover resources (human and other). As noted in the previous two essays, the new sharing economy is exemplified by companies such as Uber and Airbnb that serve to organize transactions between individuals. In the case of Uber, people can serve as drivers for Uber selling rides in their own cars—without (as of this writing) all the usual costs and regulations of operating a cab. In the case of Airbnb, people can rent out property and (as of this writing) generally avoid the usual regulation and taxes associated with running a hotel.

The Crowdfunded Hardware Ecosystem | TechCrunch

The Crowdfunded Hardware Ecosystem | TechCrunch | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In the past six years crowdfunding has become a popular, if not the most popular, form of financing for hardware startups, potato salad distractions notwithstanding. Over the years we’ve seen a variety of successful crowdfunding campaigns translate early crowd love into great venture capital rounds. We’ve even seen a few, like Oculus VR, manage to use successful campaigns to catalyze massive exits. Crowdfunding has changed the face of hardware investing, giving startups a chance to prove product-market-fit without the massive costs of going into mass production.

Copyright, Ethics and Theft - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"I argue in my article, copyright is essentially a means of allowing people to take what they've borrowed from elsewhere (like Paul Simon did in 'Graceland') and stamp the label 'Theirs' on it. Virtually nothing is completely original, but copyright acts as though the whole work was. It allows people to steal from the ideas, culture, language that we have all created in common and to label it their own." [1]

3D Printing Titanium Bicycles: The mainstreaming of additive manufacturing in ... - 3DPrint.com | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In 2011 Bristol engineers announced the creation of 3-D printing bicycle made from nylon.  In 2012, UK bike brand, Charge Bikes announced the development of the first ever production printed titanium bicycle parts. Printing these parts, as opposed to machining them, allowed them to create pieces with greater complexity than would otherwise be possible. In addition, it was quickly realized that among the benefits of using additive manufacturing to create bicycle components was a significant reduction in the amount of material required to produce them.

Energy Efficiency and Social Change Part II

Energy Efficiency and Social Change Part II | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A few weeks ago I wrote about Jeremy Rifkin’s latest book titled The Zero Marginal Cost Society.  It has been a most interesting read and for me has created a new way of interpreting many current events.  In that post I mostly focused on the economic transformations Rifkin sees in the not-to-distant future, and have wondered what that means for the future of construction, especially residential.  He touches upon it a little, but most of his writing is about economic transformation on a societal scale.  In this post I will delve into what little information is available about changes coming to construction and the coming of the sharing society.  But first a little more background.
