An open letter to all my former students upon return from my sabbatical.

It has been almost 2 years since the structures of our shared Utopian experiment collapsed so violently and so completely. It’s also been almost that long that I have dropped out of sight. As most of you already know, I was asked to step down, which I reluctantly agreed to. Ever since that moment, I have wanted to find out what happened. I have understandably been desperate to find out why this has all occurred. Why did this terrible destruction have to happen? To be honest, for a long time I have simply not been able to take in the unbearable truth that I somehow actually caused this collapse to occur. How could this be the case? I have dedicated the last 28 years of my life to the Spiritual upliftment of humanity, to the evolution of consciousness and culture. For so many years I thought of little else. So with all of this in place, how could I have caused this collapse to occur? As I have let this in, I have had to embrace both the truth and beauty of where we all went together and my own participation in the downfall that occurred two years ago.

Our Mission - The Emerging Sciences Foundation

Our Mission - The Emerging Sciences Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
The phenomena of religion, spirituality, and mystical or transcendental experience have long been shrouded in mystery. From a scientific point of view, little is known about the biological or evolutionary implications of the religious instinct which has dominated the landscape of human life for at least the past 5,000 years.

Collective Ritual Invocation of an Integral Post-Metaphysical Spirituality, Joe Corbett

Collective Ritual Invocation of an Integral Post-Metaphysical Spirituality, Joe Corbett | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Newton gave us the laws of gravity which were then refined by Einstein's general theory of relativity, but there has not yet been a refinement of the Cartesian dualism between mind and matter. There is still a dichotomy in the debate between scientific materialism and its skeptics where either physical matter or consciousness is prioritized and then given supremacy of importance and origin over the other. But this is a false dichotomy precisely because there is in fact no clear distinction between mind and matter. For matter is not merely an inert object but is filled and surrounded with information, information about size, mass, charge, spin, momentum, etc., which is in constant exchange with other matter in the environment, matter that might even be said to “know” how to respond and interact according to a fixed set of forces and physical laws.

The dangerous American myth of corporate spirituality

The dangerous American myth of corporate spirituality | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Recently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella gave some shocking advice to a young businesswoman who was concerned that her male peers were passing her up for promotions: Don’t question the systemic sexism of corporate America, just trust in “good karma” to get you ahead. While his attitude made waves in the blogosphere, in fact it accurately represents a form of spirituality that is becoming popular in the West.

Dangerous emotions, liberating spirituality

Dangerous emotions, liberating spirituality | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Our emotions are often beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. They represent our spontaneity, and seem to speak to us of our freedom. And yet all contemporary studies — from neurology and psychology to marketing — prove that our emotions are the form of self-expression over which we have least control, that they are highly vulnerable and, basically, easily manipulated.

People like you and me, who have been committed to grow in consciousness throughout the millennia, have always practiced various forms of mindfulness in community. Today's fledgling "shared mindfulness" movement is both a continuation of a noble tradition, and at the same time, a timely response to our life conditions in the 21st century.

Testimony of Equality - P2P Foundation

Testimony of Equality - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"A testimony of equality is an act, usage, or course of conduct by a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) tending to assert or promote equality of persons, arising from the Friends' belief that all people are equal in the eyes of God. The word testimony describes the way that Friends testify or bear witness to their beliefs in their everyday life. A testimony is therefore not a belief, but is committed action arising out of Friends' religious experience. Testimony of equality has included Quakers' participating in actions that promote the equality of the sexes and races, as well as other classifications of people." Buddhist Economics: How to Stop Prioritizing Goods Over People and Consumption Over Creative Activity

Buddhist Economics: How to Stop Prioritizing Goods Over People and Consumption Over Creative Activity | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Much has been said about the difference between money and wealth and how we, as individuals, can make more of the latter, but the divergence between the two is arguably even more important the larger scale of nations and the global economy. What does it really mean to create wealth for people — for humanity — as opposed to money for governments and corporations?

Deus Ex Machina vs. Electric Gaia

Deus Ex Machina vs. Electric Gaia | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The emergence of cyberspace is undoubtedly creating a wave of religious enthusiasm. Partly, the infinity that cyberspace creates, functions as an ideal mechanism for the projection of our fondest hopes and deepest fears. It therefore generates an extraordinary amount of cultural energy, the fusion of techno-utopianism, the desire for the spiritual liberation from the constraints of matter, and the 'end of the millenium' fears for the end of the world ... what author Michael Grosso calls the Technocalyps.

Is there any value in New Age thinking? | openDemocracy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Defining 'New Age' is difficult - the term has been appropriated by all kinds of cults. In my view, the New Age movement was a reaction against the mistakes of western civilisation: an heir to utopian socialism.

Eight Acupuncture Points for Transforming Capitalism

Eight Acupuncture Points for Transforming Capitalism | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I'm just returning from the annual BALLE conference in Oakland. BALLE (the Business Association for Local Living Economies), is the fastest-growing network of sustainable and value-based enterprises in North America. It was founded some fourteen years ago, but the origins of this networked grassroots movement go back to the 1990s, when Judy Wicks, the founder of the White Dog Café in Philadelphia, decided to source and manage her café 100 percent locally and sustainably, using socially just practices. People loved it and it became a legendary success. But instead of turning her winning formula into a regional or national brand, chain, and eventually an empire, she decided to reinvest her profits in the health and well-being of her local community. She set up a foundation through which she taught everything she had learned to her competitors, using her money to help suppliers upgrade in order to serve all the cafés and restaurants in the region.
