Open Source Hardware and the Law - Public Knowledge | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Last month I attended the third Open Hardware Summit in New York City.  With the growth of the community and the emergence of products that target people beyond core open source hardware enthusiasts, there was a great deal of discussion about what it really means to be open source hardware and also how to be both open source and competitive in the hardware world.  This post expands upon something that I only had time to briefly touch upon during my presentation.

Each one of the community members were initially handcuffed at gunpoint. It was called “The Garden of Eden Community,” and was totally self sustainable. You can read more about that here.

Setting the Record Straight on the Legality of Seed Libraries

Setting the Record Straight on the Legality of Seed Libraries | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

After the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture cracked down on a seed bank in the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, hundreds of seed libraries in the U.S. are suddenly wondering if they are breaking the law. According to Pennsylvania regulators, in order to give out member-donated seeds, theSimpson Seed Library would have to put around 400 seeds of each variety through impractical seed testing procedures in order to determine quality, germination rate, and so on. The result of the Pennsylvania crackdown is that the library will no longer give out seeds other than those which are commercially packaged.

Will San Francisco's New Airbnb Law Save the Sharing Economy? - In The Capital

Will San Francisco's New Airbnb Law Save the Sharing Economy? - In The Capital | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

San Francisco's board of supervisors voted to officially legalize Airbnb in the city after wrangling over details and amendments for two years. The 7-4 vote approving the law is the culmination of a hard fight by Airbnb and president of the board of supervisors David Chiu, who led the push for the law. Personal Gardening and Farming Are Becoming Illegal

Personal Gardening and Farming Are Becoming Illegal | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
There once was a time when vegetable gardening and backyard farming were not endangered; these activities were a way of life. However, with booming big agriculture business comes the need for monetary and job security, which means that threatening the productivity of big agriculture will not be tolerated.
