During this workshop, we would like to review different commoning practices in terms of organisation here in the Netherlands. But we would also like to think about strategies to politicise these practices, so that they may be involved in a larger political struggle instead of staying in the invisible margins of our economy.

Ministry of Digital Infrastructure NL Established

Ministry of Digital Infrastructure NL Established | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In line with the expressed wish of our King, his highness Willem Alexander, to improve  ‘verbondenheid’: cooperation and connectivity between people, I have established ‘het Ministerie van Digitale Infrastuctuur‘ (ministry of digital infrastructure NL #MinDigInfra) ‘van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden’. Such ministry must provide leadership and policy on the continuity and improvement of the digital infrastructural facilities that enable our interwoven communities, society and business ventures to flourish and create wealth in a trans-local and transnational context.

Nice idea, I could see kids riding a little more perhaps, but I suspect most people who ride bikes in Amsterdam do so because it is the most convenient form of transport and of course they have bike paths. In other cities that are not so bike centric and where it is safe to ride bikes, this might be more effective in encouraging people onto two wheels.

Gilles Vanderstuyft's curator insight, November 20, 2013 8:02 AM

This article is about the renewing technology that the city of Amsterdam adapts in order to make life easier. Up till now everywhere you go within the city there is WiFi-connection as well as fiber broadband and LTE networks. At this very moment the Amsterdam Economic Board is working on ASC (Amsterdam Smart City), which  is basically a partnership between businesses, government, research institutions and the citizens of Amsterdam to develop the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area into a smarter city.

Sven De Braekeleer's curator insight, December 30, 2013 9:40 PM

The city of Amsterdam uses a certain technology in order to make life easier.

Today, within the whole city, there is WiFi-connection as well as fiber broadband and LTE networks.

At this very moment the Amsterdam Economic Board is working on ASC (Amsterdam Smart City), which is basically a partnership between businesses, government, research institutions and the citizens of Amsterdam to develop the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area into a smarter city.

With the use of this technology, Amsterdam tries to reduce carbon emission and make the city life much better.

Hackerspacing in Europe: MadSpace in Eindhoven!

Hackerspacing in Europe: MadSpace in Eindhoven! | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Eindhoven has a very interesting history. Phillips was founded here back in the late 1800′s, with a single factory, but in the past century it grew into what could almost be called Philip’s City. A stretch of a few kilometers of Phillips buildings dominated Eindhoven and almost everyone worked for them. Fast forward to the present and most of the buildings have been sold and turned into other businesses.

“According to Alderperson Freek Ossel this form of rental is an “additional form of accommodation that dovetails with a hospitable Amsterdam.” However, to maintain its ‘occasional character’ persons renting out their property are allowed to do this for a maximum of four persons at a time and for a maximum of two months per year in total. Renting out a property longer than two months will be viewed by the supervisory agency as an indication of possible commercial activity. Tourist taxes will become obliged. Further regulations are negotiated to deal with nuisance and unsafe situations.

#School 6 - Knowmads NL

#School 6 - Knowmads NL | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Knowmads works around the concept of Learning Spaces, and the ideia that students are capable of taking control of their education. Which means that you must be willing to have the unknown ahead of you, and a very entrepreneurial profile. They have a coworking space, with tools and materials to test and create prototypes, that all “students” have acess to. And give you two of the most important and most negleted gifts education can give you: Tools to build what you love, and freedom to actually do it.
