This is first of many types of securitization for p2p loans

"Securitization may be a crucial development for peer-to-peer lending because it might allow a wider array of investors to buy such loans. The Eaglewood deal mostly went to a large insurance company, according to a person familiar with the transaction. That buyer probably operates under restrictions that prevent it from directly investing in Lending Club loans. The Eaglewood deal, however, effectively allows it to gain financial exposure to such loan"

"The flagship product we are offering is a tool which I am calling AutoBuyer for the time being. As the name suggests, the software allows you to input your strategies and automatically invest in Prosper listings just moments after the loans become available. This is an absolutely critical feature for retail investors to have as more and more loan volume is being swallowed up by hedge funds and other large institutional investors. We have a ton of other cool features in the pipeline for AutoBuyer but I’ll refrain from going into detail for now"

As the big boys come into the market, individual investors are going to have to use all the tools possible to compete. This appears to be a must have.

This is one man overview of p2p lending with some good facts.  One major issue here in p2p is risk management through risk diversification. The author has 7 loans in his portfolio.  This small number is  too small. The primary way to reduce your risk in p2p lending is through diversification, at least 500 loans which means you need a minimum amount of capital to play the game safely, about USD $ 10,000.

Stu Lustman's comment, May 28, 2013 7:02 AM
Hi thanks for your comments. I agree that diversification is important especially since it starts to put the law of large numbers into your favor. My hope is to show that risk management may not require 500 loans to manage that risk. Is that how you lend with $25 at a time into 500 loans? That is an interesting strategy too. I'd like to hear more
