This is such a great article where the author describes how complex bullying has become since the old days "thanks to social media". One of my favorite theories within communication is the "Cognitive Dissonance Theory" because we go experience cognitive dissonance everyday. A reason why this theory correlates with cyberbullying is because it's usually a group of people bullying one person. People int he group may feel that it is wrong to bully the person but they do it anyway because they think it's okay since their friends are doing it. However, if other students/teachers can pinpoint sources and voice out how wrong bullying is then the people experiences the cognitive dissonance will stop to dissolve the uneasy feeling.

This article was great to read because it basically sums up how to pinpoint the source of bullying, what to do about it and how we can stop it.

This is an important article which defines cyberbullying. We need to keep re-visiting defining features of this form of bullying. Also, it is important to share documents such as this one with our children. As far as girls being more likely to fall victim to this crime, well I just wouldn't agree that this is so, because cyber-bullies might not discriminate between genders, it is just that displaying their power over hapless victims satisfies their sadistic cravings to dominate.

The anonymity of the Internet can make it even more difficult to ascertain the identity of cyber-bullies and I believe that some cyber-bullies are unlikely to be bullies in the real world, thinking the Internet is a safety buffer.

I feel that peer pressure can be of both positive and negative influence to others. It may help children to feel the competition between their friends and strive for excellence in terms of academic results. This peer pressure may help the child to realise its potential and help reach it. On the other hand, peer pressure from the wrong company may result in picking up bad habits. Some examples are teenagers being exposed to smoking through friends and may feel pressurized to try it so as to match their friends habits.

These are statistics which prompt us to sit up and go through them. While I would not term them alarming, they are never the less important. The correlation between connectivity and bullying is evident here, and what is even more disturbing is that this kind of 'virtual bullying' might in fact be more potent than the real form. Every technological advantage comes with its own disadvantage, which means being better connected also exposes you to the risk being watched by the whole world while you are being bullied on the net!
