Dr. Deborah Henderson uses her course Announcements to increase student engagement with the course content and herself and to reinforce and expand upon course concepts. She writes, "Taking in all the weekly posts at once, I can copy individual posts that I think are really insightful and incorporate them into my general comments - giving the students not only a model for good post content, but also a sense that the instructor is reading what they write and guiding their experience inside the course. This method also lets me focus my thinking and say things better and more articulately than I would have in a face-to-face class."

Giving Students Feedback With Kaizena (Voice Comments) Tutorial

Published on Sep 10, 2013

Use your voice to give students feedback about their papers in Google Docs. I've only played with this a little bit so far, but I'm really excited to be able to use Kaizena to give my students feedback this year. Being able to add links to resources and reuse those links for other students is so helpful. If you have questions I'm on twitter @JenRoberts1 and the guys who make kaizena are @kaizenaFB if you have feedback for them, or email founders@kaizena.com

I think this has the potential to be of great use with English Language Learners, especially since they tend to understand the spoken word better than the written.

Very true, David. One more tool to meet the needs of individual learners.

'Speaking to Students' with Audio Feedback in Online Courses

'Speaking to Students' with Audio Feedback in Online Courses | Pedagogy and technology of online learning | Scoop.it
I had one professor in grad school that provided audio feedback on our assignments, which I appreciated, and looked forward to very much even if it was not all positive. Not only did five minutes of feedback pack a lot of punch, but it felt personal, and I found myself putting extra effort into all assignments in his class.

We had a faculty member doing this back in 2002 using an original HP Compaq Tablet PC and Camtasia

This can be useful in the f2f class as well. Voice Thread now has individual feedback capabilities.
