This article aims to present some of the results of an appreciative inquiry whose overall purpose is to validate the predictors of students’ engagement and perseverance in an innovative undergraduate medical programme at the University of Sherbrooke (Canada). The article explores the development of their intellectual posture according to Perry’s approach (1970, 1981). To do this, data were collected through a questionnaire addressed to 288 students and with a group of 12 students who took part in a focus group. The results show that the students adopt a relativistic profile, and this regardless of the number of years of training and gender. This leads to believe that the students selected by the programme present a higher relativistic profile at the start of the course, which is then reinforced by the programme.

A framework for interaction and cognitive engagement in connectivist learning contexts | Wang | The International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning

A framework for interaction and cognitive engagement in connectivist learning contexts | Wang | The International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning | Pédagogie universitaire | Scoop.it

The research question that drives this theoretical research is, what are the characteristics and principles of interaction in a complex connectivist learning process? Can they be clearly revealed when viewed from a systematic view focused on interaction? This article provides a systematic interaction framework for connectivist learning, which reveals the characteristics and principles of learners’ interactions so as to guide interaction design and evaluation in connectivist learning designs and implementations.

This paper studies the effects of higher education teaching and learning practices on the early careers of graduates. It draws on data from a quantitative survey conducted with 11’000 graduates in five European countries and in Japan, five years after graduation. Analysing answers related to the organisation of studies revealed four “pedagogical models”: 1) the traditional academic model, 2) the research-based model, 3) a semi-professional model and 4) a pure professional model. It appears that there is a strong link between education and employment for graduates from programmes classified as professional, whilst research-based programmes are assessed as enabling students to develop higher order skills.
