Flipping The Classroom… A Goldmine of Research and Resources To Keep You On Your Feet

Flipping The Classroom… A Goldmine of Research and Resources To Keep You On Your Feet | Classe inversée (Flipped classroom) | Scoop.it
Many educators are beginning to become aware of the growing teaching method referred to as “Flipping The Classroom”. Simply put… the teacher provides videos for homework, while traditional home work is done in class under teacher supervision. Unfortunately this might be just too simplistic of a definition. Possible this is why using the words “simply put” may not be the best practice in explaining anything.

Sure it's an extensive page - the research section could be better with reference to papers dated back to 1998 and 2001. The section "Resources To Better Understand Flipping the Classroom" is good including info graphics and a good link to J. Gersteins http://usergeneratededucation.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/the-flipped-classroom-model-a-full-picture/

Free webinar: Festival of Dangerous Ideas: Flipping the Classroom Can be Dangerous

Free webinar: Festival of Dangerous Ideas: Flipping the Classroom Can be Dangerous | Classe inversée (Flipped classroom) | Scoop.it

The 'Flipped Classroom' uses the internet to provide pre-classroom lectures, and other pre-class online activities. The classroom is then used to embed that knowledge through exercises, coaching and discussion undertaken with teacher support. This results in more classroom time for students to interact with the teacher and to work collaboratively with other students.

In this session we will consider the advantages and challenges of the 'flipped classroom' approach, the technologies that we can use to support the approach and the teacher skills required to ensure that the approach enhances the learning experience.

The Flipped Classroom : Education Next

The Flipped Classroom : Education Next | Classe inversée (Flipped classroom) | Scoop.it

Flipped classroom teachers almost universally agree that it’s not the instructional videos on their own, but how they are integrated into an overall approach, that makes the difference. In his classes, Bergmann says, students can’t just “watch the video and be done with it.” He checks their notes and requires each student to come to class with a question. And, while he says it takes a little while for students to get used to the system, as the year progresses he sees them asking better questions and thinking more deeply about the content. After flipping his classroom, Bergmann says he can more easily query individual students, probe for misconceptions around scientific concepts, and clear up incorrect notions.

Flipped classrooms: Let’s change the discussion

Flipped classrooms: Let’s change the discussion | Classe inversée (Flipped classroom) | Scoop.it

We need to change the vocabulary. The term “flipped classroom” has an implication of isolated instances or a single mode of instruction … sort of like, “If you do x, y and z, then you have a flipped classroom.” I want to lay out major themes that can be found in all instances of flipping. Flipped learning as an idea encompasses a variety of individual practices that are tailored from class to class, by teachers, to meet the needs of their students. The practices and methods teachers use vary, just as traditional teaching methods vary from class to class. However, there are philosophical parallels between any two classes that promote flipped learning.
