Facebook has been making many inroads into education over the last few years. Many institutions are using Facebook sites to publicize events on campus, as well as to aid in their recruiting.
As well, many students, instructors and administrators are using a number of Facebook applications for a wide variety of academic purposes.

Peter B. Sloep's curator insight, February 3, 2013 2:22 PM

Useful summary of the fundamental characteristics of informal learning and how it relates to workplace learning. A plea largely to abandon formal training and replace it with informal learning. Although short on evidence, the presentation is high on intuitive appeal for those who are convinced of the power of social media for learning. (@pbsloep)

Design your Digital Classroom | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

"I have just returned from the Illinois Computing Educators Conference where I had the opportunity to facilitate a full day session titled Design Your Digital Classroom. This session wasn't about the ratio of students to machines, nor was it a prescription for using one type of technology.  The focus was on how to use technology as a tool for learning to support all learners in the 24/7 classroom." Re-envisioning Modern Pedagogy: Educators as Curators

Presentation given at SXSWedu on March 6, 2012. <- very nice work on curation process for teachers (JS)

I just reviewed this slideshow.  I was pleased to see how I fit the model of Educator as curator.  In particular the author illustrates how Diigo (my main curation project for many years) helps fire the engines of a personal learning network.  When asked why I curate this Digital magazine, I can now refer folks to this excellent presentation. ~ Dennis O'Connor

elearnspace › What do connections do?

This was written by gsiemens. Posted on Sunday, June 3, 2012

I’ve been thinking more about connections over the past several years than I have about networks. That might seem like an odd thing to say since networks and connections are obviously related. Networks though are bigger, aggregated, more formidable to control and understand than individual connections. While it is helpful to see a social network analysis of learner interaction in a course, it doesn’t necessarily give either the educators or the students the type of information that they need to understand what they need to do differently (or more of).
