I had the opportunity to tell my first grade teacher thank you 5 years ago. She actually had kept my first grade picture all these years. My teachers were great and school was my favorite place and I excelled there. So thanks to all the teachers that I did not get to thank. :-)

The ‘Grit Narrative’—Demystified | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it
Why educators are paying more attention to noncognitive factors in the classroom, and whether it’s more than just a fad.

Nestled within the New-Age-y sounding concept of “noncognitive factors” are fairly concrete examples of what parents and educators should and shouldn’t do to prepare students for the rigors of college and their careers. Gleaned from research into brain development and human behavior, a toolkit is emerging on how to best respond to and encourage students’ grit, persistence, and the ability to learn from one’s mistakes.

Teachers as Learners: 6 Great Professional Development Ideas | Edudemic

Teachers as Learners: 6 Great Professional Development Ideas | Edudemic | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it
Most teachers consider themselves life-long learners. As professionals, teachers are required to complete a certain amount of professional development (PD) every few years to keep their certification current. Usually this PD looks like speakers coming to teacher’s meetings, or educators attending conferences or taking courses at a local college. While these opportunities are ways to advance their craft, many teachers find that they don’t get much as they should from sitting in meetings or classes.
