David Donat's curator insight, July 24, 2013 3:26 PM

“Skills young people should be learning to be prepared for a career in 2020 include:

The ability to concentrate, to focus deeply.

The ability to distinguish between the “noise” and the message in the ever-growing sea of information.

The ability to do public problem solving through cooperative work.

The ability to search effectively for information and to be able to discern the quality and veracity of the information one finds and then communicate these findings well.

Synthesizing skills (being able to bring together details from many sources).

The capability to be futures-minded through formal education in the practices of horizon-scanning, trends analysis and strategic foresight.”

This resource is very useful for my presentation as it shows that education does not really need the use of technologies such as computers, mobile phones etc. to be productive.

It will support my point that sometimes too much ICT in the lives of children may ruin them.

When including this in my presentation without plagiarizing, i will rewrite the points that i want to take form this topic without copying from the article itself.

Developing the digital literacies of academic staff: an institutional approach | Newland | Research in Learning Technology

Developing the digital literacies of academic staff: an institutional approach | Newland | Research in Learning Technology | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

For each literacy, there is an explanation of what the literacy is, why it is important and how to gain it, with links to resources and training opportunities. After an initial pilot, the DLF website was launched in the summer of 2014. This paper discusses the strategic context and policy development of the DLF, its initial conception and subsequent development based on a pilot phase, feedback and evaluation. It critically analyses two of the ways that engagement with the DLF have been promoted: (1) formal professional development schemes and (2) the use of a ‘School-based’ approach. It examines the successes and challenges of the University of Brighton’s scheme and makes some suggestions for subsequent steps including taking a course-level approach.

3 Non Negotiables When Teaching Students to Evaluate Their Own Learning

3 Non Negotiables When Teaching Students to Evaluate Their Own Learning | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it
Equity in the classroom is critical, but beware of conformity under the guise of fairness. Elementary and secondary students filter data differently. Elementary students think in facts and want to please their teachers. Secondary students consider possibilities and aim to please their peers. Students from different cultural, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds bring their own unique understanding of learning into the classroom. Every student (and teacher) has a why—a reason behind his or her action. There can be no equity so long as rules are absolute, so look for the why.

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

As a foreign language teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to allow my students to demonstrate what they have learned.

I want students to be able to choose a tool that brings out their creative side and, as a result, leads to a more authentic and meaningful learning experience.

Because learning a language can be difficult, I try to design a variety of activities and projects that will provide students with practice and unique opportunities to develop their language skills through the creation of their projects.

This article shows us how technology can help us as teachers in our classes, this is a medium that is easy to use and accessible to people. Teachers who are afraid or do not want to use these means to carry out their classes may seek to help a classmate to guide them and show them how this can help them in view of the fact that today technology is in our day to day. It may be that in the beginning it is not easy to operate these devices, but with these 5 ways that the article shows us will be a little easier to learn how to handle them.
Sebastián Vásquez's curator insight, December 4, 2016 5:54 PM
Part of the reflection about the way technology can make part of our academic and learning lives should not stay only in how to implement it but also on how to spread the word and the ideas which come with it. Although technology is nowadays given much more importance  than before, there are still many teachers who refuse to get involved by this amazing field. That is why there is also the need to raise awareness not only in students to use technology in different and diverse ways but also to teachers. If we make it meaningful for teachers to appreciate technology as a tool rich in possibilities and not as an impossible language to speak, it would also be a new possibility for creating discussion and enhance learning practices.

Open Knowledge Maps - A visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

VISUAL INTERFACE
We are creating a visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge that can be used by anyone in order to dramatically improve the discoverability of research results.

REVOLUTIONIZE DISCOVERY
We are going to provide a large-scale system of open, interactive and interlinked knowledge maps spanning all fields of research.

SHARE. USE. COLLABORATE.
We will develop a space for collective knowledge organisation and exploration, connecting researchers, students, librarians, journalists, practitioners and citizens.

HOW IT WORKS
An Open Knowledge Maps visualization presents you with a topical overview for your search term.

We use text similarity to create the knowledge maps. The algorithm groups those papers together that have many words in common.

The visualization is intended to give you a head start on your literature search. You can also use Open Knowledge Maps to stay up-to-date - just limit your search to the most recent papers in the options.
