Lateral Thinking - How can Lateral Thinking help you? | #Creativity #ProblemSolving

Lateral Thinking - How can Lateral Thinking help you? | #Creativity #ProblemSolving | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it
With logic you start out with certain ingredients just as in playing chess you start out with given pieces. But what are those pieces? In most real life situations the pieces are not given, we just assume they are there. We assume certain perceptions, certain concepts and certain boundaries. Lateral thinking is concerned not with playing with the existing pieces but with seeking to change those very pieces. Lateral thinking is concerned with the perception part of thinking. This is where we organise the external world into the pieces we can then 'process'.

A healthy human brain does not want to always be creative, it is designed to figure out how to do things or how to think about things and then 'locks' that automatic response or behaviour into a subconscious process so that your conscious brain can focus on other matters.

Pensar de forma diferente...mirar mas allá de lo evidente... conduce a soluciones inesperadas a viejos problemas.
Andrea Mejia Medina's curator insight, May 23, 7:38 PM
Lateral thinking is the art of looking at things sideways, and not choosing the obvious answer. When we think laterally, we look a little bit deeper into things. Lateral thinking makes new ideas posible If we are able to look at things differently, and make an unlikely connection, this will take us to a new way of problem solving, as suggested by O’Sullivan, 2008, “search as far outside the boundaries of convention as you can” (p.57). Lateral thinking leads us away from the rules and structure we normally encounter; this can be a mental block on our creativity.

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media

10 Useful Tools to Craft Beautiful Graphics for Social Media | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

Visuals are the currency of sharing on social media. Text-only updates can only convey so much and get so far. Here are 3 stats that prove the worth of creating graphics.

First, 66% of all social media posts are or include images.

Second, forget native visual platforms, like Instagram and Pinterest, that allow photo sharing. In 2013, Facebook became the largest photo sharing website, with its users uploading 350 million photos every day.

Third, use of images was rated as the most important social media optimization tactic, in a 2014 survey by Adobe and Software Advice.

And, it’s not just limited to social media…Content with relevant visuals also gets 94% more views than content without. Even social media platforms now focus on images in their redesigns....

Why Being Constantly Busy Is Killing Your Creativity

Why Being Constantly Busy Is Killing Your Creativity | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it

Maybe you've heard, being constantly busy is bad for your brain. "Many important mental processes seem to require what we call downtime and other forms of rest during the day," claims a Scientific American article rounding up the research on the subject. Doing nothing now and then is required to replenish motivation and attention, and to form stable memories, science shows.

It's also required for maximum creativity, according to new research.

Your cluttered mind is a creativity killer

The study comes out of Bar-Ilan University in Israel, where researchers Shira Baror and Moshe Bar asked a group of volunteers to complete a creativity-gauging word association task. For instance, if the researchers said "white," the participants were asked to name whatever related word first popped into their heads.

Now here's the twist. The participants had to do this while carrying various mental "loads." Some were simultaneously asked to remember a string of seven digits, while others had to commit only two to memory. How did their performance differ?

The Science (and Practice) of Creativity

The Science (and Practice) of Creativity | Pedagogia Infomacional | Scoop.it
"Creativity isn't about music and art; it is an attitude to life, one that everybody needs," wrote the University of Winchester's Professor Guy Claxton in the lead-up to the 2014 World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) dedicated to creativity and education. "It is a composite of habits of mind which include curiosity, skepticism, imagination, determination, craftsmanship, collaboration, and self-evaluation."

Sounds like the perfect skill set for equipping young people to navigate an increasingly complex and unpredictable world. Encouragingly, there's plenty of evidence -- from both research and practice -- that most of the above can be taught in the classroom. In fact, innovation and education experts agree that creativity can fit perfectly into any learning system.

But before it can be incorporated broadly in curriculum, it must first be understood.

Dr. Deborah Brennan's curator insight, March 31, 2015 6:02 PM

Creativity has always been what has set America apart from other nations.  The ability of our population to imagine new solutions to everyday problems and create innovations has kept America as a world leader and given us the economic advantage.  many nations have looked at our education system and wondered how they could nurture this ability in their children.  As a gifted educator, teaching creativity has always been our focus.  Unfortunately, in these days of standardized testing, which lead to standardized curriculum and schools, we are losing our creative advantage.  Creativity is a key for ALL our children.  our children enter school with an active imagination and a natural ability for creative thinking.  We must understand creativity and how we can nurture it in our classrooms and schools.

Ann-Lois Edström's curator insight, April 7, 2015 12:56 PM
