A Manifesto for PK Ottawa on "Creative City-Making" - Pecha Kucha Ottawa

A Manifesto for PK Ottawa on "Creative City-Making" - Pecha Kucha Ottawa | Pecha Kucha Ottawa Vol #5 - June 12, 2012 - A fresh look at Ottawa's creative distinctiveness. | Scoop.it

Pecha Kucha Ottawa is about a new way to look at our city's distinctiveness. We see creativity (at least in terms of "city-making") as broadly vested. In other words, it is not confined to the professions usually associated as "creative". Passionate creatives are present in all vocations and for a city to fully capitalize on its creative potential, it is critical that we embrace this broader and more inclusive view.

The Veggie Patch Re-imagined: Finding Hidden Harvest

I have been searching for these people for a while. Sometimes I would hear rumors about folks interested in better utilizing our fragmented urban orchard but I had not been able to track them down or in any way substantiate their existence until Seedy Saturday 2012.

Maria Gomez Umana - Coalition of New Canadians for Arts & Culture (CNCAC)

Maria Gomez Umana - Coalition of New Canadians for Arts & Culture (CNCAC) | Pecha Kucha Ottawa Vol #5 - June 12, 2012 - A fresh look at Ottawa's creative distinctiveness. | Scoop.it

The CNCAC supports the idea that new immigrant youth and their peers have great creative energy. Given the chance, and a sense of ownership, they can and will be the engines of growth in Canada’s cultural and arts industries, whether it be in television, film, advertising, journalism, theatre, writing, or the visual arts. We especially want to increase opportunities for marginalized immigrant and refugee youth so that they can experience and contribute to their cultural background and to Canada.

Cris Price and Ashley McConnell | UnderBelly Art Collective

Cris Price and Ashley McConnell | UnderBelly Art Collective | Pecha Kucha Ottawa Vol #5 - June 12, 2012 - A fresh look at Ottawa's creative distinctiveness. | Scoop.it

The UnderBelly Art Collective hosts large-scale and pop-up events that present the community with an opportunity to come together to initiate new thinking or weave a different social fabric for the arts. Taking the form of a gallery, a performance space, a gathering for miscellaneous ideas--you name it--UnderBelly aims to create a welcoming and highly accessible venue for artistic freedom and exchange.

Our creativity is expressed through the love of thought. Love of art. Love of sounds. Love of love. We are looking for the beauty in every moment--we cheer on the tug of war between artistic abandon and structure. We applaud the moments that are simultaneously chaotic and harmonious. We encourage the heroic experiments of the maniacally over-ambitious, while provoking curiosity and curating a new experience. Like a black hole, Underbelly wants to draw you in and make sure you can’t escape our pull. But this isn’t rocket science. This is magic.

More than 30 years it's been now, and Tony Fouhse still hasn't tired of shooting.
Fouhse is an editorial and commercial photographer. However, from time to time, after clearing his desk, he travels to carry out personal projects. In the last little while he's taken portraits down in Mississippi, Arkansas and New Jersey. These days Fouhse is achieving international attention and recognition for his compelling work that's closer to home, shots of Ottawa Lowertown addicts.  Every day Fouhse finds himself in a different situation. Different circumstances. No matter, he always throws himself into the experience. Photos come out of this process. Convincing. Vigorous. Keen. Uncanny.
