Is it really worth it....

Rocio Watkins's curator insight, January 23, 11:13 PM

There is  plenty of research indicating that the majority of homework assignments in Middle School and in high school are a waste of time and disrupt family life.  Worksheets, answering questions at the end of a chapter, looking up words in a dictionary, dioramas, coloring, among others, are the worst of all.  These do nothing to improve test scores.  They are usually the result of lack of planning on the teacher's part, punitive assignments, or "last-minute" something-to-do to give the appearance of being busy.  The only homework that has shown to improve test scores is: reading a book of choice, hands-on science, and math review.   Please, let's stop the busy, useless work sent home.  We do not need our children to have 12-hour days - that's a moral imperative.
