In a recent EMBO publication Daniel Mattle et  al, describe a sulfur‐lined metal transport pathway of the Legionella pneumophila Cu+‐ATPase. Besides Through X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and ATPase activity assays, they also employed charge transfer measurements on solid‐supported membranes on the SURFE2R. - A nice example for the potential of this technology.

In a recent EMBO publication Jentsch et al. propose a model for TPC function in NAADP-induced Ca2+ release from endolysosomal compartments.More potent, but less known than IP3 that liberates Ca2+ from the ER, NAADP releases Ca2+ from acidic stores. The notion that TPC channels mediate this Ca2+ release was questioned recently by studies suggesting that TPCs are rather PI(3,5)P2-activated Na+ channels. Ruas et al (2015) now partially reconcile these views by showing that TPCs significantly conduct both cations and confirm their activation by both NAADP and PI(3,5)P2. They attribute the failure

On Nov. 19th the Jury of the German future prize takes its decision. The three remaining projects are very different ranging from new production processes for steel and vegan milk products from Lupine seeds to the development of revolutionary high throughput ion channel screening devices.

It's not everyday that patch clamp is in the presidential focus - so an exciting day for the ion channel community and of course for Nanion Technologies.

New labs - and cutting etch technologies: More and more reasons to visit Nanion in Japan. The Japanese market shows a lot of interest for high throughput patch clamp. Nanion was the first company to install high throughput giga seal patch clamp systems at customers there - and more will come. So a very good reason to invest in a demo unit for support and demo purposes.
