The Parkinson’s Association traces its roots to 1983 beginning in San Diego and is now providing services from San Diego to Los Angeles. http://www.parkinsonsassociation.org/about-us/background

We are patients, family members, caregivers, talented volunteers and staff. In addition to raising money for research, Parkinson’s Association is well known for their behavioral counseling program for people with Parkinson’s, their families and caregivers. We are involved with patient outreach, education, support groups, public awareness and support legislative advocacy. The Parkinson’s Association functions as a local liaison for communities from San Diego to the Greater Los Angeles area.  Steve Porter, support group leader and a long-time attendee of the Santa Monica Walk-a-Thon said, “I love having all my friends and family at the Walk-a-Thon every year to show their support for not only me, but for all in the Greater Los Angeles Community who need help. I support the Parkinson’s Association Los Angeles Community because they have great programs to help people live their best.”

Registration fee is $30 for adults (age 13 and up), $10 for children (12 and under) and optional registration for dogs for $10 (they will get a doggie bandana and doggie goodies). All registrants will receive an event T-shirt with an opportunity to upgrade for $5 to a Performance (dri-fit) Wear T-shirt. First thing in the morning there will be coffee, bagels and fruit to get your energy going. After thewalkthere will also be food donated by local restaurants for a light lunch. This encourages people to stay, enjoy the beach a bit longer and to socialize.

Each sponsor gets a table, chairs and an umbrella to display their product or service. Table sponsors start at $250 and at the $500 level and up sponsors also get their logo on the back of the shirt.

The money raised from this event will be used to support research and to provide on-going education programs and support for people who need help right now.
