Legislation would prohibit sexual relationships in home during divorce

Legislation would prohibit sexual relationships in home during divorce | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it
Lawmakers on Beacon Hill are considering a bill that would prohibit people from dating or having a sexual relationship within their home while they are going through the process of getting a divorce.
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:

An Act relative to divorce, Bill S.787, was proposed by State Sen. Richard Ross, a Republican from Wrentham, on behalf of former Wrentham Selectman Robert LeClair.

Under the legislation, couples going through proceedings that involve children and a marital home would not be allowed to conduct relationships within the home until the divorce was finalized and custody issues were resolved. The only exception would be if they received "express permission" from the courts.

The bill was referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Ottoman Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ottoman Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ottoman Empire (; Ottoman Turkish: دَوْلَتِ عَلِيّهٔ عُثمَانِیّه‎, Devlet-i Aliyye-i Osmâniyye ; Modern Turkish: Osmanlı İmparatorluğu or Osmanlı Devleti ), also known as the Turkish Empire, Ottoman Turkey or Turkey, was an empire founded in 1299 by Oghuz Turks under Osman I in northwestern Anatolia.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, in particular at the height of its power under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman Empire was a multinational, multilingual empire controlling much of Southeast #Europe, Western Asia, the Caucasus, North Africa, and the Horn of #Africa.
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
With Constantinople as its capital and control of lands around the Mediterranean basin, the Ottoman Empire was at the centre of interactions between the Eastern and Western worlds for six centuries. Following a long period of military setbacks against European powers, the Ottoman Empire gradually declined into the late nineteenth century. The empire allied with Germany in the early 20th century, with the imperial ambition of recovering its lost territories, joining in World War I.

Has Rocco Ritchie Just Hit Out At Madonna On Instagram?

Has Rocco Ritchie Just Hit Out At Madonna On Instagram? | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it

A private account claiming to be Rocco Ritchie has sparked concern after a series of cryptic posts.

Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
As Madonna’s high-profile custody battle over her 15-year-old son Rocco continues, a new Instagram account has popped up claiming to be run by the teenager. The private account, which has been set up in the past week, has sparked confusion after its description read, ‘Son of a b**ch’.

A source close to Madonna told MailOnline: “If this is his new account then clearly comments like this show he’s in a delicate place and highlights the fact he needs to be in an equally supportive relationship with both parents.”

A year later, opening of adoption birth records in Ohio still solving mysteries

A year later, opening of adoption birth records in Ohio still solving mysteries | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it
When the packet arrived in the mail, Allison Grove reassured herself — for the umpteenth time — that she had good reasons for wanting to tear into its contents. She wasn’t yearning for parental love. On that front, her mother and father had given her a lifetime. The Far North Side resident is married now with four kids of her own. “I wasn’t missing anything,” Grove said. “There was nothing lacking, other than my physical identity.”
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
A law that took effect a year ago this month has given Grove and thousands of other Ohio adoptees a path toward solving long-running mysteries about everything from eye color and ethnic heritage to the circumstances of their birth and risks of genetic disease.

The legislation finally unsealed the birth records of people whose adoptions were finalized in

Ohio between 1964 and 1996, allowing them to obtain copies of their original birth certificates. The Ohio Department of Health had issued 7,824 adoption files as of March 5 and continues to receive requests.

“There was a crush with the first wave of people getting their original birth certificates,” said Betsie Norris, executive director of

#Adoption Network Cleveland and an advocate who led the years-long fight for records access. “We almost couldn’t build support mechanisms fast enough.”

Armed with new information, many adoptees are searching for birth parents for the first time, while others, like Grove, have been able to resume efforts that once led to dead ends.

Oklahoma Missionary Accused of Raping Children at African Orphanage Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

Oklahoma Missionary Accused of Raping Children at African Orphanage Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it
An Oklahoma missionary who volunteered at a children's home in Kenya was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday for sexually assaulting three girls and a boy while working at the facility, according to court documents.
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
Matthew Lane Durham, 21, was sentenced to four decades in prison by Judge David L. Russell on four counts of “engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places,” according to court documents.

“In a span of just 33 days,” prosecutors wrote to the court, Durham “raped three girls — ages 5, 9 and 15 — at least eight times. During that same time period, he sexually molested a 12-year-old boy twice.”

The prosecutors said that Durham “not only forcefully sexually abused these children,” but “he psychologically damaged them by taking advantage of their trust he received from the children.”

Questioning foster care 'should not be allowed,' says association head | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it
An official with the Alberta Foster Parent Association says media questioning of foster care should not be allowed, following a damning media investigation that found the number of children who have died in government care is nearly triple the official numbers.
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:

The head of the Alberta Foster Parent Association says media questioning of foster care should not be allowed.

The comment followed a damning media investigation that found the number of children who have died in government care is nearly triple the official numbers.

In a news conference Wednesday in Edmonton, the Alberta government spoke out in support of the foster care system. A joint Edmonton Journal/Calgary Herald investigation released Monday concluded a total of 145 children died in government care since 1999 but the province only reported 56 of those deaths.

Speaking as part of a panel of foster care supporters, Katherine Jones said media reports questioning foster care "should not be allowed."

After a 36-day trial — a length more common for a criminal hearing than a custody dispute — they’ve spent half a million dollars on lawyers.

PRACTICE DIRECTION 12B – CHILD ARRANGEMENTS PROGRAMME

When does the Child Arrangements Programme Apply?

1.1

The Child Arrangements Programme (the ‘CAP’) applies where a dispute arises between separated parents and/or families about arrangements concerning children.
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
1.2

The CAP is designed to assist families to reach safe and child-focused agreements for their child, where possible out of the court setting. If parents / families are unable to reach agreement, and a court application is made, the CAP encourages swift resolution of the dispute through the court.

1.3

It is well-recognised that negotiated agreements between adults generally enhance long-term co-operation, and are better for the child concerned. Therefore, separated parents and families are strongly encouraged to attempt to resolve their disputes concerning the child outside of the court system. This may also be quicker and cheaper.

Why Asian Adoptees Need to Give a Shit about #BlackLivesMatter

Why Asian Adoptees Need to Give a Shit about #BlackLivesMatter | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it

I don't remember the first time someone told me I was White. But I definitely remember the last. It was the summer of my junior year in college and I was a new student orientation leader. My university was diverse but mostly segregated, and this staff was about half White and half Black - plus me.

Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
Tensions became apparent early on: miscommunications, presumptions, an offensive skit impersonation. I remember feeling unsettled about how I was situated in all of this. After one of the meetings where things got heated, Sheri, one my Black colleagues, rolled her eyes at me and said, C’mon, Amy, you’re basically White.

I was pretty butt-hurt. With that one assertion, it felt like Sheri tried to erase all the times I was called Chink on the playground or was fetishized by horny White dudes. I wasn’t White. The world definitely doesn’t see me as White. But I wasn’t Black either. The violent history of anti-Blackness in the US was not something I felt like I could fully relate to.

Sheri said that to me ten years ago but it resonates with me more than ever. Police brutality and the devaluation of Black and Brown bodies is nothing new, but it grows increasingly clear that we are at a critical point right now, a new civil rights movement. And yet, anti-Blackness is a concept still largely unexplored by transracial Asian adoptees. From reading coded indignation about not wanting to play the race card like that group on adoptee forums, to hearing n*gger during a Korean culture camp skit this summer, I have generally witnessed silence from our adopted community in both live and online spaces as our Black brothers and sisters continue to fight for their lives to matter.

The short answer to this post’s title is: because it’s simply the right fucking thing to do.

Record conversations with doctors, minister tells patients
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:
Health minister Edith Schippers is recommending people record conversations with their doctors to make sure they don’t forget what they have been told. The conversation should be recorded on a smart phone or similar device and used for personal information only, Schippers said. ‘Good care requires that doctors and patients agree about the treatment,’ Schippers said in a briefing to parliament. ‘And it is important that patients ask questions and doctors take the time to answer them.’ Doctors who don’t want to be recorded should then be required to provide the patient with written information.

Tiggy Poes and Flutterbys: Absent Fathers And The CSA

Tiggy Poes and Flutterbys: Absent Fathers And The CSA | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it
It’s been a while since I’ve written a personal post – it seems like the past month has consisted of product reviews and other people’s stories… When you’re under a lot of stress, it’s sometimes difficult to put your own thoughts into words -...
Ngozi Angeline Godwell's insight:

Before anyone misunderstands the purpose of my rant – it’s not about the money. Given his unreliability, I have always planned my finances without expecting any contribution from my ex. It's just that I'm now more concerned about how his absence is affecting my daughter. Despite calling Paul ‘dad’, she is at an age where she understands relationships much more and regularly asks me why her ‘real dad’ doesn’t see her. I have never restricted his access, even when adoption was a consideration, but he has failed to make any effort for almost 10 years!

Despite trying to explain that Paul is a better dad than she could ever hope for, I often feel like my words are of little comfort - I know she still feels like something is missing. While I know she has very little respect for the guy, it’s clear that she still feels a sense of curiosity about him. I’ve asked her if she wants me to contact him, but her only response is ‘I don’t know’.

So I suppose my question is - what do I do next? I don’t want her to see him and be disappointed, but what would hurt her the least? Do I try to contact him, or should I hope that he will eventually make an effort of his own accord (perhaps he might even see this post)?

I’m sure I’m not the only one to encounter this problem and I would love to hear of any advice you guys could offer!

FSCD Section 2-3, aka: Samantha's Law

FSCD Section 2-3, aka: Samantha's Law | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it

Dear Premier Rachel Notley and Minister of Human Services, Irfan Sabir,
The importance in providing a short section name to a Bill is demonstrated by example here.
A simple title assists the listener in linking legal terminology. i.e. "Section 1 15-14-119.5, Powers of Guardians and Conservators." Citing short title, the "Peter Falk Act", increases awareness of intent. (Dervived from the Catherine Falk Organization.)
Similarly, I call on this government to honour the premise : "The Family Support for Children with Disabilities Program to have separate legislation from that of child protection services." Short title, "Samantha's Law" in explanation of "Section 2-3 of Family Supports for Children with Disability (FSCD) of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFA)."
Sincerely,
Velvet Martin
