Morris Nichols: Morris Nichols Adopts Policy to Address Discriminatory Tax Treatment of Same-Sex Couples

October 2012

Wilmington, DE  (October 16, 2012)  – Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP is pleased to announce that it will offer a tax gross-up to employees in a committed same-sex relationship effective October 5, 2012. Morris Nichols is the first major Delaware law firm to offer this benefit.

Under federal law, an employee in a committed same-sex relationship who enrolls a spouse or partner in the firm’s medical and dental plans must pay taxes that opposite sex married couples do not have to pay.  Morris Nichols’ new policy mitigates this differential treatment by covering the additional taxes that employees in a committed same-sex relationship must pay if a spouse or partner participates in the firm’s medical or dental programs.

Dads Visitation & Access Rights

Dads Visitation & Access Rights | Parental Responsibility | Scoop.it

In today's society, nearly half of children are being born to single mothers. Combine this with the high rate of divorce and a parent (usually the father) ends up on the outside looking in, wondering what is happening with his children.

Denial of access is a major problem, even with court orders in place. According to the US Dept. of Health & Human Services study, "Survey of Absent Parents" over 60% of mothers regularly violates the access rights of fathers, cutting off all contact between the children and their fathers within five years. Unlike child support, mothers are not jailed, even with multiple Contempt of Court ruling against them for violating the father's court ordered visitation rights. However, Michigan has recently passed a law to limit the driving privileges of a custodial parent violating the access orders.
