A woman who killed her toddler daughter and baby son has told a court she was "a good mum, and I never meant any of this to happen." Felicia Boots, 35, who suffered from post-natal depression, pleaded not to be judged harshly for killing Mason,...
My note on the issue:
"Kills both her kids, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Post natal depression, received no jail time."
When I worked in mental health in London there was a woman who did the same thing. I worked on the psychiatric unit in Hackney Hospital where Broadmoor inmates were sent for assessments or lived there. I worked there in the early 90's. The woman has been sectioned for over a decade. Her story was a real sad one, she killed he baby. Years later I learnt the woman left, and started a new life, then had a baby and everything was going so well.
When the police sectioned me to get rid of me I met a woman who had the same issue, but fortunately did not kill her children, she had great support, but sadly throughout her children's lives she kept self harming. Have you seen a woman with a knife scar across her neck; which was self inflicted?
I met her children, now teenagers. Very complex area, especially when women are already medicated and suffer with severe reaction to the prescribed medication.
Before I used to just read the headlines 'mother kills children', until someone pointed out to me read the whole story. I have worked with women like her and trust me on this one. The woman in the Hackney Hospital her eyes were her soul and I felt her pain, she was given the best possible care. this is what happens when people believe strong medication is the answer to depression, it is not.
