Upcoming elections: PML-N, JUI-F agree to assist each other

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have agreed to assist each other in the upcoming general elections, PMLN Chief Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday. Nawaz was speaking during a joint press conference with JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Lahore. The PML-N chief further revealed that both the parties will constitute two committees which will decide on the collaboration. Speaking about the all-parties conference (APC) scheduled for February 28, Nawaz said his party will attend the conference. He said peace is needed for prosperity and that all parties should come together to take Pakistan out of the current crisis.

Qureshi, Tareen get top PTI posts, again

After around two years of internecine strife, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) came full circle on Tuesday when it appointed again Shah Mehmood Qureshi vice chairman and Jahangir Khan Tareen general secretary, the two senior most party positions after that of the chairman.According to two separate notifications signed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Mr Qureshi and Mr Tareen would assume the offices with immediate effect, the media wing of the PTI said in a press release.

Govt has failed Islamabad: opposition

The government’s dismal performance in ensuring the upkeep of the federal capital was the primary focus of opposition lawmakers’ speeches in the National Assembly on Monday, with nearly all speakers blaming the bureaucracy for failing to ensure the provision of basic amenities to the residents of Islamabad.During a debate on cut motions regarding grants for the federal cabinet and cabinet division fielded by the opposition, it seemed for a while as if Islamabad was the only topic of discussion in the house.

Probe should begin from the PM and his family: Aitzaz Ahsan

Members of the United opposition gathered at Aitzaz Ahsan's house on Monday and demanded that the Prime Minister present himself for an independent inquiry.Speaking on the occasion to media personnel, Aitzaz said:-"Hussain Nawaz himself had disclosed that the Sharif family possessed four flats in London's posh Mayfair locality," he said. "He himself talked about the property which amounts to billions of rupees," he added.

Killing women in the name of honour is a sin of the highest order: Sunni Ittehad Council

According to a fatwa issued by forty muftis of the Sunni Ittehad Council, killing a woman in the name of honour is not an Islamic act and is a major sin. In the fatwa issued by the honourable muftis, it has been stated clearly that considering killing in the name of honour as a lawful act was kufr and acts such as burning a woman alive for marrying out of her free will was against Islamic principles.

Opposition walks out as defence minister refuses to name Mazari in apology over insulting comments -

Nadra report on NA-110 misses out 30,000 votes, court told

A senior counsel representing the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)’s losing candidate told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in its analysis report on polling in the National Assembly constituency NA-110 Sialkot had  missed out the record of 29 polling stations.

Shahbaz placates alienated MPs

A group of ruling PML-N parliamentarians feeling alienated because of some policies of the party leadership, have reportedly been assured by the Punjab chief minister of resolution of their issues at the earliest.Around four dozen MNAs have ganged up against Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and a couple of other elected and non-elected PML-N leaders and hurled veiled threats of not voting for the budget 2016-17 when it would be tabled in the National Assembly.

Stalemate over probe into PM’s affairs

The eighth meeting of the parliamentary committee on Panama Papers turned out to be a non-star.Going by the statements coming from both the government and opposition, neither side had budged from its stated position over whether to begin the inquiry from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his three children.No matter what happens, it seems the government is not prepared to let the prime minister be grilled by investigators.
