Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Kurram Agency president Dr Syed Riaz Hussain was shot dead in a targeted attack outside his clinic in Habib Medical Centre, Dabgari Gardens in Peshawar on Wednesday. Presid­ent Zardar­i condem­ns attack, direct­s author­ities to bring culpri­ts to justic­e. Hussain was a brother of DIG Irshad Hussain (rtd) and belonged to the Shia sect. He had previously survived two suicide attacks in 2008. He was a candidate for the National Assembly seat NA-37 from Kurram Agency. Throughout his political career, the deceased and his family struggled to bring peace to the Agency.

Nine arrested during police search operation in Karachi

Nine people including a suspect involved in target killings were arrested during an early morning search operation by police in Karachi. According to the police, the suspects were taken into custody from Gharibabad and Ishaqabad areas of the city.

SHC issues notices to Sindh govt, FIA in Axact fake degree scam

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to the provincial government, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the home secretary over alleged fake degree scam involving Pakistani IT company, Axact. The notices were issued to all parties for appearance before the court on May 26 by a two-member bench of the high court, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.

Court extends interim bail of Mirza till May 30

The Anti Terrorism Court on Tuesday extended interim bail of former Home Minister Sindh, Zulfiqar Mirza till May 30. Mirza appeared before the ATC after his interim bail expired today. The court had granted bail to him till May 19 against surety bonds worth Rs100,000 each in the three pending cases against him.
Three cases have been registered against Zulfiqar Mirza under the Anti-terrorism Act 1997 over charges of attempting murder, attacking a police station and forcibly shutting down shops in a market in the Badin district.

FBR launches probe into Axact’s tax practices

Looks like the whistle blown by Declan Walsh’s investigative report in the New York Times in connection with the online businesses of Axact has opened a Pandora’s Box as one shocking development leads to another. Now the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set into motion a process of investigation into the alleged flouting of tax laws by Axact – a company that calls itself Pakistan’s biggest in terms of IT service provider.

Imran vows to bring Zahra Shahids killers to justice

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday vowed that his party would bring the arrested killers of slain PTI leader Zahra Shahid to justice – two years after the senior leader was gunned down in Karachi. 60-year-old Shahid, a former senior vice president of the PTI's Sindh chapter and a founding member of the party, was shot dead on May 18, 2013 near her residence in Karachi when she was  returning from a protest against alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.

MoU signed between Pakistan, Afghanistan intelligence agencies

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) late on Monday, according to an ISPR statement. Director General Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa tweeted that the MoU includes intelligence sharing, as well as complimentary and coordinated operations on respective sides.

TIU conference declares suicide bombers ‘hellbound’

Participants of an Islamic conference held under the auspices of Tanzeem Ittehad-e-Ummat (TIU) on Sunday declared suicide attackers as ‘hellbound’. “The elements involved in sectarian killings are sinners, for they have committed Fasad-fil-Arz,” said a TUI communiqué issued on the heels of a conference organized in the provincial capital.

Religious leaders at a conference organised by the Tanzeem Ittehad-i-Ummat Pakistan on Sunday said that suicide attacks were against Islam and sectarian killings were tantamount to spreading anarchy and chaos in the world. The Ulema termed the so-called Jihadi activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, al-Shebab and other similar organisations and groups against Islam and Jihad.

Reconciliation plan sent to Centre: Dr Malik

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Sunday said that no foreign company would be able to loot the valuable resources of the province, adding that the benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be of great value to the local residents. Addressing a special press conference here, Malik said that the CPEC was a multidimensional project, and its effects should first reach Gwadar, then Balochistan, and then avenues to progress will be opened for the rest of the country.

Imran Khan announces to regularize KPK protesting employees

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday announced to regularize protesting employees of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who had staged a sit-in outside his residence. Speaking to media, Khan said the National Accountability Bureau would carry out investigation into recruitment of the employees and those who got recruited properly should not be worried. Condemning the bus attack in Karachi, he said he was going to Karachi as a huge tragedy has happened in the city.

Axact to face legal action if allegations proved: Khawaja Asif

Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday said investigations were underway into the Axact fake degree scam and if fraud gets proven action will be taken against the company under the law. Talking to media persons here, the Minister, however, said that Axact will be allowed an opportunity to clarify its position over allegations of involvement in the issuance of fake degrees.

Four terrorists behind Safoora bus attack arrested: CM Sindh

Security forces have arrested four militants involved in the terrorist attack on a Ismaili community bus in Karachi which claimed 46 lives, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah said on Tuesday. Speaking to media representatives here, he said that the four arrested men have also confessed to being involved in the gruesome attack on the minority community.

Two convicts executed in Mach, Faisalabad jails

A convict on death row, Muhammad Musa was hanged early morning on Wednesday at Mach Central Jail in Balochistan. Musa had committed a murder in 2005 in Quetta.

Indian national arrested from Karachi’s city station

The intelligence agencies and special police, in a joint action, arrested an Indian citizen from Karachi’s city station. Sources said the Indian national had arrived in Pakistan on 90-day visa, however, he was residing here illegally after his visa had expired. He had also acquired Pakistani passport and identity card here. The accused has been taken to Airport police station.
