Government powerless to change men-only venues | Herald Scotland

As pressure grows to end discrimination in Scottish golf, Shona Robison, the Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, admits the Scottish Government has no power to accelerate the process of bringing gender equality.

Kassandra Matthews's insight:

The ethics in the game of golf reach far and wide and are deep within its roots. Should something that could have been considered ethically right 300 years ago, but is no longer preceieved by the general population and right, be adheared to? Even the government is powerless in this battle.

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club, exclusively for men since it was founded 260 years ago at St. Andrews, will vote in September on whether women can join the club. - New Zealand Herald

Kassandra Matthews's insight:

A rare site in sports. When you think golf, you don't think just men like you might if you think of NASCAR or maybe Rugby, however, there is one place that is sticking to its guns and only allowing men on its 'hallowed' ground.

It's 2014 and equality still doesn't exist on the most simple scale of Gender.  Ridiculous!

Kassandra Matthews's insight:

Ethics in coaching for all sports! This father and coach helps reel in the the what some might consider the 'Lost art of Coaching' and the stide towards the simple 'winning attitude' and shows the morals and ethics that should drive a coach the better not just the team as a whole, but the life of the individual as well.

Coaching is fun! But, don't get carried away and remember that you are teaching youth to be team players and have good sportsmanship.

A simple proposal to pay college athletes.

Via Michael Hersch
Kassandra Matthews's insight:

An insight to the 'paying' of college athletes. We have a moral and ethical obligation to ensure students get what the pay for when they enter college (I'm saying this as though I was the coach, instructor, ect.). Recently a story broke about an NCAA basketball player who goes to bed hungry. If we can't keep cafeterias open to work with the intense schedule of a colleg athlete, then we should allow them the ability to afford a life style that can allow them to put food on their plate. This story offers a link to a Sports Illistrated article that talks about how we could allow students to receive assistance.

Martin claims discrimination over cart
FOXSports.com
Before Martin arrived at El Camino Golf Club for Monday's qualifier, he said he emailed tournament chairman Matt Pawlak to secure the use of a cart, which was granted.
Kassandra Matthews's insight:

Does a major body like the United States Golf Association (USGA) have a stand? Should they be ethically bound to not deny Mr. Martin the aid he requires due to a dibiltating desise he has had since birth?

Kassandra Matthews's insight:

What if you are a parent at a sporting event? Should you be held to a set of standards and ethics like the players and coach? This scoop not only entails the potentials for school and leges nation wide, but can also assist in the coach that might also be a parent.

Librada DC Smith's curator insight, March 15, 2014 5:06 PM

School provides a code of ethics for parental behavior during games. People don't realize how important this is for children to enjoy games more.

Kassandra Matthews's insight:

Do the rules of Ethics and Morals apply if a piece of that pie is larger then the entire pie? If a name is what some considered made the sport what it is today is so large, will the rules still apply?

Survey asks College Athletes About Drugs and Concussions - Players

Via Green Chalk Team
Kassandra Matthews's insight:

This article demonstates the need for morals and ethics in the athletes to demonstrate safety and consionsness about health conserns. You should not ignore doctors in contact sports, nor undermine the rules and regulations set by the governing body responsible for the health, safety and drug free programs.

Green Chalk Team's curator insight, August 19, 2013 10:56 AM

Only ask 92 athletes? Outside of survey data, there's not a healthy historical data stream to run analytics on. The Student Assistance Programs and wellness services that pull this data together tend to get trapped on the confidentiality jargon.

Systems that keep data private and allow access to central student services staff, can shape campus policies related to wellness and athlete health.
