Job seekers in the State of California with criminal records are now breathing their collective sigh of relief after Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a new legislation last October 10. The newly-signed Assembly Bill 218, which was authored by Assemblyman Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento), will forbid California employers from asking job prospects whether or not they have been convicted of any crime. It will take effect July next year.

That is why the moves of certain Democrats are puzzling. Just recently, some Californian democrats are said to be mulling a Senate constitutional amendment to strike out anti-discrimination laws from the state’s constitution. The Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 5 is a measure that “eliminates the prohibition on state discrimination”."

"Like full-time employees, covered part-time employees must be paid the California minimum wage of at least $8.00 per hour. Those who are not included in the said requirement are those who engage in outside sales, apprentices who are enrolled under the state's apprenticeship program, family members of the employer, and those who serve as independent contractors."
