Diversity of Experience Promotes Innovation - An Interview

Diversity of Experience Promotes Innovation - An Interview | organizational transformation | Scoop.it
Part 1 of a series on neuroscience and innovation Humans are animals.  While we like to think we're captains of our destiny, we're far more driven by instinct than we know.  In many ways, we’re just glorified apes, even in business.

"

Q:  So our brains create patterns to make sense of things.  That’s an efficient way to deal with our environments, right?

Janet:  The great news is that this works marvelously most of the time.  The downside is that we sometimes automate patterns that may have limited utility or which are outmoded hand-me-downs from another generation or set of circumstances. Also, our neural patterns are constricted by our unique circumstances and by what we’ve paid attention to.  There’s way more data in the environment than ever makes it onto our neural maps."

craig daniels's insight:

How easy it is for us to think we have found the answer to innovating within our business or nonprofit, after-all if it works once won't it work twice.

According to Neuroscience the more we add diversity to the equation the more the weeds of innovation will grow. The more we meet people who's experiences are different from our own the more the possibilities and combinations our mind has to play with.

It's not rocket science, it's neuroscience. So what are we waiting for try the blueberries mixed in your tomato salad.

Using Conflict To Unlock Creativity

Using Conflict To Unlock Creativity | organizational transformation | Scoop.it
The average CEO spends 25% of his time coping with conflicts. It’s worth asking how much of that conflict has truly been used for useful purposes, like fostering creativity?
craig daniels's insight:

Ask yourself the question, can you deal with conflict? Maybe you even relish conflict. Having a built in tolerance for conflict may be one of the most important keys to being able to open those new veins of creativity within your business.

Joining conflict with being willing to fail and topping it off with seeking opinions that are different from your own can feed your small business a steady stream of deeply creative ideas.

Ok jump in and find out: - Test Your Innovation IQ - Forbes | organizational transformation | Scoop.it

I often wonder about just what innovation really is and watch as my brain crashes into the crossroads between inventiveness, creativity and innovation. Where does the road meet I sullenly ask but, only quiet takes up the space.

So for some fun I took this little quiz (got an 8) and thought I would share it with others who might wonder like I do. What the heck is it anyways?

"Everyone knows that innovation means coming up with the next great idea in your industry, right? Actually, there’s a lot more to it than that."
