Anne Egros's curator insight, June 16, 2013 4:37 AM

This study looks interesting and raises some questions:

Can we effectively link personality to brain structure and neurochemistry ?

What if you are neither a strong extrovert nor a strong introvert ?

I also think there are other factors than extrovertion/introvertion that are impacting the way people behave in various contexts and their "rewarding mechanisms"

Anne Egros's comment, June 16, 2013 1:24 PM
To quote Carl Jung, the psychologist who coined the terms introversion and extraversion*, “there is no such things as a pure extravert or a pure introvert. Such a man would be in the lunatic asylum.”

All great points... particularly # 3. Without trust, not much else can happen.
AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, May 15, 2013 1:17 PM

Tpotally agree with Don on item #5.  I also like #3.

Create an environment of trust.

Many organizations believe internal trust is nice to have but not a key factor for bottom line profitability. That simply isn’t true. Trust directly affects speed and cost. When trust diminishes, speed goes down and costs go up. These economic factors are usually disguised as other things, but when there isn’t trust between team members, or between the company and its customers, it is impossible to achieve real success. The myths are that trust is built solely on integrity, that you either have it or you don’t, that if lost it can’t be restored, and that it can’t be taught. The realities are that trust is a function of both character and competency, it can be both created and destroyed, it can be restored (in most cases), and be taught and developed into a measurable strategic advantage.

Russ Bergeman's curator insight, April 18, 2013 9:21 PM

The benefits are exponentially greater when anyone, but especially an employee, finds meaning in what they are doing. I believe people are "hard wired" to seek meaning in the actions they take. When the actions that must be taken at work don't align with personal values, where many find meaning, people become less satisfied. It may take months, years, or even decades to show up... but eventually it does show up in reduced performance and negative morale.

I advocate using tools specifically designed to determine an employees organizational fit. There are also tools that can assist in determining an employee's managerial capacity within specific jobs. My company, The Employers Edge, has implemented these assessments in hundreds of companies with thousands of employees and leaders.

What are you using in your organization to ensure you are hiring, retaining, and promoting the right people?
