#Leadership Proven Tips for Business Leaders to Embrace Organizational Change

#Leadership Proven Tips for Business Leaders to Embrace Organizational Change | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Every business leader says they’re open to change. But a study by Gallup found that 70% of organizational change initiatives fail.

That means that out of every workweek spent on fostering change, three and a half days are wasted. Most people simply don’t want to change if it can be avoided. Even when things aren’t going well, they prefer the mediocre to the unknown.

Businesses that embrace an organizational culture of change have similar characteristics and are willing to disrupt the status quo to make things happen.

Communicating Under Pressure: How Leaders Can Be Calm And Effective No Matter What - Forbes

Communicating Under Pressure: How Leaders Can Be Calm And Effective No Matter What - Forbes | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it

Communicating under pressure is a critical leadership component learned very early on during Navy SEAL training.

Without having the ability to maintain composure, thinking clearly, gather information and make a call, you can’t succeed in combat. Which of course can lead to the worst possible outcome.

The same applies in business leadership situations, without death and dismemberment of course. We all know what it’s like to have the perfect response pop into our heads after an important situation or verbal exchange, too late to be of any use. And then there are those who can face all kinds of conflict and seem to know exactly what to do and say. And they do so in a calm and tactful manner. Faced with an angry customer, an uncooperative co-worker or tense negotiation, they don’t stammer or get upset. They keep their cool and glide through the situation getting what they want without breaking a sweat. These are the people who typically rise rapidly through the ranks. But great communicators are made, not born. It’s simply about having the right tools and knowledge.

One of the important tasks that a leader has to perform is being able to communicate under pressure! To stay calm in the face of difficulties is an essential skill. All leaders should undergo some kind of training which will help them stay calm, maintain composure, and think clearly in the midst of chaos.

Connectivism: Emerging perspectives on learning, teaching and technology

Connectivism: Emerging perspectives on learning, teaching and technology | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Just like anything else that involves human experience or interaction, the act of learning does not happen in a vacuum. It is at the intersection of prior knowledge, experience, perception, reality, comprehension, and flexibility that learning occurs. In years past, the traditional learning paradigms of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism have been the benchmarks against which the learning process has been measured. What happens, though, when you throw into the mix all the technological advancements that have come about over the last 40-50 years? These theories certainly do not become obsolete by any means, but they do need to be used in a very different way to be able to incorporate the attributes of a 21st century learning environment. In today’s technology-rich society, it has become increasingly important to learn how to learn. Vail put it simply by declaring that learning must be a way of being (1996).

What is a PLN? Why do I need one?

What is a PLN? Why do I need one? | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
In the education world, PLN stands for Personal Learning Network. What it means is that an individual has developed their own personalized “network” of fellow educators and resources who are designed to make them a better teacher. This network exists both in their real-life relationships and online through their social media connections.

With more and more opportunities to develop one’s skills beyond what traditional routes have provided, establishing your own PLN is an essential step toward deepening your abilities as an educator. In the past, teachers were able to get connected to teaching resources through master’s courses, education journals, conferences, professional development, and other similar activities. Each of these were and still are excellent ways to broaden your knowledge and skills in education. However, because each of these requires your physical presence and procurement of physical materials, they also come with certain restrictions.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING: EQUIPPING STUDENTS FOR THE DIGITAL ECONOMY

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING: EQUIPPING STUDENTS FOR THE DIGITAL ECONOMY | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
In the report ‘New Vision for Education: Fostering Social and Emotional Learning through Technology', the World Economic Forum explores how "character qualities" such as collaboration, communication and critical thinking will equip students to succeed in the swiftly evolving digital economy.

To thrive in the 21st century, students need more than traditional academic learning. They must be adept at collaboration, communication and problem-solving, which are some of the skills developed through social and emotional learning (SEL).

In 2015, the World Economic Forum (WEF) published the report New Vision for Education: Unlocking the Potential of Technology that focused on the pressing issue of the 21st-century skills gap and ways to address it through technology. In that report, WEF defined a set of 16 crucial proficiencies for education. Of those skills, 10 were labelled either “competencies” or “character qualities”. Competencies are the means by which students approach complex challenges; they include collaboration, communication and critical thinking and problem-solving. Character qualities are the ways in which students approach their changing environment; they include curiosity, adaptability and social and cultural awareness.

Five Practices of Transformational Leaders - Forbes

Five Practices of Transformational Leaders - Forbes | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
In my executive coaching work with high potential leaders, I get to learn first hand what truly makes a difference between the leaders who meet the goals they set for our coaching work, and those who miss out on the opportunity.

On the surface these leaders have a lot in common. They are all senior leaders in Fortune 500 companies. They are smart, ambitious, and committed to their careers. Their companies want to invest in their growth. The coaching process we work through is similar.

Yet, across hundreds of coaching hours with these leaders I’ve observed five practices that truly make a difference in whether leaders meet their goals or not. Those who do transform themselves, progress rapidly in careers, and transform the organizations they work within (one of them is on Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women list). The key variable that makes a difference is not me (the executive coach) at all. It’s the person being coached and what they practice.

So, whether you are going through an executive coaching process or not, you can use these five practices to more predictably meet the goals you’re setting for yourself.

Here are the five biggest differentiators:

8 digital skills we must teach our children

8 digital skills we must teach our children | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it

The way children use technology is very different from adults. This gap makes it difficult for parents and educators to fully understand the risks and threats that children could face online. As a result, adults may feel unable to advise children on the safe and responsible use of digital technologies. Likewise, this gap gives rise to different perspectives of what is considered acceptable behaviour.

How To Weave Growth Mindset Into School Culture - Mind/Shift

How To Weave Growth Mindset Into School Culture - Mind/Shift | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Adilene Rodriguez admits she has always struggled with academics. Especially in middle school she hated getting up early, found her classes boring and didn’t really see where it was all going. When she started her freshman year at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California, just south of Oakland, she was a shy student who rarely spoke up in class and had little confidence in herself as a scholar.

Rodriguez is now a senior and her approach to school has changed dramatically over her high school career. She attributes her shift to her freshman science teacher, Jim Clark, who taught the class about growth mindset from the very beginning and backed up the discussion with action.

“He would tell me, ‘You need to push yourself, that’s how you’re going to grow. Be confident. You’re not always going to be successful on your first tries, but you can get there,’ ” Rodriguez said

Allan Shaw's curator insight, June 15, 10:29 PM
"She also tries hard to model a growth mindset to her students by being open about her own struggles as a parent and a teacher. “They’re not used to teachers apologizing,” Rodgers said. “But I tell them I’m going to make mistakes all the time. And I think showing that helps them realize they can actually make mistakes.” When teachers and administrators say they want kids to have a growth mindset, the school environment has to back up that rhetoric. At Arroyo, the emphasis on growth mindset came alongside a shift to standards-based grading. Kids can see that mistakes along the way aren’t negatively affecting them and keep working to master the concepts. “When you believe it; they believe,” Rodgers said. “If I didn’t believe this, they wouldn’t buy what I’m selling.”"
