A systemic model for differentiating school technology integration | Amiel | Research in Learning Technology | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
The objective of this study is to investigate the systemic conditions that contribute or inhibit the development of different activities by teachers making use of new media. We compiled a list of well-known conditions for technology integration success and mapped these in the historical and culturally bound perspective of activity theory (cultural historical activity theory). We conducted a multiple case study analysis of four schools, public and private. The results point to unique and distinctive scenarios even when homogeneity would be expected, reinforcing the argument that material conditions do not determine pedagogical outcomes nor do they determine changes in practice. Beyond this, the study proposes a methodology that can help elicit tensions in technology integration, pointing to avenues for school development.

Augmented Reality Examples: How Fashion & Retail Are Using It

Augmented Reality Examples: How Fashion & Retail Are Using It | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Pokémon Go is officially a phenomenon which has everyone – both young and old – using their smartphones to engage in good old-fashioned scavenger hunts for colorful creatures who seemingly inhabit the world around us. But this isn’t your grandparents folksy rummage through parks and backyards. Instead, Pokémon Go is but the latest advancement in the augmented reality space, which relies on smartphone amenities like location tracking and cameras to give players a digital escape without being confined to one’s home – like in the case of interacting with next-generation consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

While AR is getting all sorts of press for its applications as it relates to gaming, the fashion and retail industries were some of the first using the cutting-edge technology.

Look no further than these five cases.

Stephen Dale I've been following Dion Hinchcliffe for many years as well. You're fortunate to have met him in London. You bring up a very good point about monitoring our every move. As you say, there is a price we will pay one way or another for privacy and time will tell how this will all shake out in the end. I'd love to connect with you again, it's been a while. As you can see I launched Curatti and we've been very well received. Hope things are going well with you, let's catch up soon.

Critical Thinking Exercises That Will Blow Your Students’ Minds

Critical Thinking Exercises That Will Blow Your Students’ Minds | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it

Real critical thinking exercises seek truth. It takes daring and independent thought to stray from conventional thinking and discover truths previously unfound. It could be said that critical thinking is at the heart of dispelling great myths about our world and changing the way a society views and acts in their world.

'It's time to ditch the traditional school curriculum and prepare young people for life'

'It's time to ditch the traditional school curriculum and prepare young people for life' | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Our world is getting increasingly complex; so how do we know what is worth teaching and learning?

David Perkins, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, is interested in how to adapt our curriculums in an ever-changing world. He believes that what is conventionally taught in our schools is not designed to produce the kinds of community members we want and need.

Perkins believes that only by reimagining what we teach our children can we lead students down the road to a more prosperous life.

Here, in a piece that first appreared on the Global Search for Education website, Professor Perkins, whose latest book is Future Wise: Educating Our Children for a Changing World, discusses what is worth learning.

TEACHER LEADERSHIP & DEEPER LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS

In this new paper commissioned by the Ford Foundation, Barnett Berry makes the case for how a system of teacher leadership and learning can fuel deeper learning for all students.

Here is what the paper tackles:

examines current reforms’ limitations and notes some promising emergent examples, (like Social Justice Humanitas Academy in LAUSD); summarizes 30 years of research about how teachers learn and lead (also drawing on stories of teachers CTQ has worked with since our founding in 1998); identifies three promising shifts that could be leveraged to create an effective system of teacher leadership and learning; and
describes next steps that stakeholders (including policymakers, USDOE, state education leaders, superintendents, and others) can take to advance teacher leadership toward a more equitable public education system.

The infographic below reveals 3 big changes we can leverage now to improve public education for all students.

Defining Critical Thinking

Defining Critical Thinking | Organización y Futuro | Scoop.it
Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed or down-right prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that of what we produce, make, or build depends precisely on the quality of our thought. Shoddy thinking is costly, both in money and in quality of life. Excellence in thought, however, must be systematically cultivated.
