This project began on 14 October 2012
following an international appeal of Vandana Shiva
who has appealing to the Freedom of Seed,
accordingly we organized a Seed Workshop (held in Évora)
at the end we decided that we could not stick around
We searched a little bit and ...
To the urgency of rescuing at least some of the traditional Seed that still exist in our country
with the need for sharing knowledge,
We put together the concept of Seed Circles
with the structure of a Seed Bank,
and the result ...
CIRCLES OF SEEDS
CIRCLES OF SEEDS
A Circle of Seeds is a very simple idea:
Is to gather a group of friends or neighbors,
in which each subscribes to multiply and save seeds from one or more crops.
Each member chooses a species, soweth, takes care, harvest, clean, dry and store the seeds.
At the meetings everyone shares their seeds and the information they have on the plant chosen
If the Circle has 12 elements
And each element choose a culture
After one year, the Circle will have in your Seed Bank 12 varieties.
The following year, each person chooses another culture
and now there are 24 varieties
After 5 years...
