Reports on organ trafficking are beginning to surface again and partly appear to be linked to the economic turn down related to global financial issues, as well as a need for organ donors.
In this report via Insight Crime "Lack of Donors Drives Organ Trafficking in Latin America" one of the issues raised is a need for passing legislation for minimum penalties for this crime in the countries where the crime originates. Of note a number of Western countries have such legislation already in place- i.e. organ trafficking is illegal.
