Dr Mariyana Simeonova, head of the Executive Agency for Transplantation in Bulgaria, recently held in an interview with the FOCUS News Agency.

 

Dr Simeonova outlined some of the current statistics for organ transplantation  in Bulgaria as well as the challenges with respect to increasing the rates of organ donation. In addition the top three hospitals for organ transplantation were also named.

This report is about the challenges that have been faced in recent years in the United States with increasing numbers of people on transplant waiting lists and how the concept of paired kidney exchange arose. Hint it involved a Professor of Economics (Dr Alvin Roth) who was ultimately awarded the Nobel prize.

 

However there are still challenges with finding matches with paired kidney exchange schemes and the reasons are also outlined in this report.
